Got a question about Silverado/Sierra drivetrains.
On my 2000 S-10 ZR2, the rear differential automatically locks, which I LOVE. My question is, what are the features on a 2003 or newer Z71? Locking differential or no?

Just don't get them buried in the mud, snow, etc and do a bunch of back and forth to get out. Lockers are nice in that they don't affect going around corners at high speed. The Eaton unit GM used is not the most robust unit.

I don't believe the locking differential is part of the Z71 package. It is part of the "power package", which a truck probably had if it came with a 5.3 liter engine and the trailer towing package.

Z71 has an off-road suspension package and skid plates. Not really necessary for a highway vehicle.

Look for the option code "G80" on the sticker in the glove box. That's the locking differential. And of course if you find a pickup you like without the locking rear end, you can convert it for around 500 bucks.
