PTO irrigation pump

Finally look at putting some water out to my trees that I grow. I am going to look at two pto pumps this weekend. Both are 4".

I have 2 5 acre fields each approx 300 x 700. I think I want to run a big stationary sprinkler(s) that I can move around. I am trying to avoid drip lines, due to the labor to install. Unless everyone tells me it is really the only way to go.

I only plan on using it during the dry times. Electricity is not an option due to location.

Does a 4 inch pump (100-150gpm) push enough water to cover my area without moving a sprinkler tower around too much?

I have a big pond (1 acre) that touches these fields to draw from.

Thanks in advance,
Rick

I plant usually 8 rows a year. The 1st year trees only take up 100' x 700'. The first and second year trees are the ones I really want to get water on.

We have used a Bauer Rainboy Irrigation Unit since 1990. It is a hard hose with a Nelson 100B sprinler. It covers 150 foot wide effectivly. Takes 100 GPM at 90 PSI. On the size field you show rhat would be two pulls. We use ATV to move ours. Be carful on ponds for source of water. They are un dependable. I was a Irrigation Salesman and started irigating back with sprinkler line in 1950.My e-mail is open. I can send you pics.

Rick,
I've heard of people just drilling a small hole in a plastic 55 gal barrel and sitting it next to newly planted trees then filling them with water and it leaks out the minute hole real slow. They say it works great. You may have to raise the barrel off the ground just a bit though. It saturates the ground better other wise too much water at one time just runs off the surface and not down to the roots.

That is exactly what I am doing now but with 5 gallon buckets. Last year I planted 1050 trees.

Ran out of buckets at 100 trees.

I have two 1500 gal tanks. I thought about hooking drip irrigation to them. As another idea if I don"t go with the big pto pump set up.
