Another sad day

At 1400 hrs today a RCAF aircraft will touch down here in Trenton Ontario bringing home another Canadian soldier. This trooper was killed by a roadside bomb while serving in Afghanastan. She was 21 years old and on her second week in battle. You can stand down now trooper you have done your duty.God bless you and we will never forget.

Do Canadians typically have a ceremony to honor the fallen heroes? I hope so. Here in the US we still seem to have trouble with that. We have to work at keeping the loonies away so ours can get a decent uninterrupted burial.

What a shame.I know what you mean by the protesters, what are those idiots from that church in kansas?anyway, boy I work withs bro. in law was killed and these a-holes were out there protesting,if there hadnt been so many cop cars protecting them i'd have run through the dang whole stupid bunch with my truck.I didn't even know the young man who was killed ,but they deserve all our respect.

Here in Mo we've got the Patriot Guard if there aren't enough police between the idiot protesters and the family. The Patriot Guard started out with a bunch of veterans who are (Harley-Davidson) bikers but they let other people in now. I joined.

Then in 2008 the legislature passed a law creating a 300-foot buffer requirement between the funeral and the protesters.

I think someone received a judgement against them for something like $11,000,000; don't know if they're still active or not.......

yeah those f-wads tried that near here and there was a militia of rednecks that would have killed them had they seen one stupid sign of theirs. They ended up not showing their faces. I swear it could have been a real bad deal.

they are still active and still preaching the same stupidity.

The remains of our soldiers are brought to the RCAF base at Trenton, east of Toronto, thence the hearse ride on the 401 and hundreds of people line the overpasses waving Canadian flags as the hearse passes, there are fire departements, police, military and thousands of civilians all along that corridor through Ontario, I passed through there earlier this afternoon and people had begun to assemble, one lone flag bearer on an overpass was all it took to bring a tear to my eye..that soldier was Canada's second female combat soldier to die, described as a true soldier, believed in her mission and had made an impression on all her fellow soldiers..rest in peace Private Blais...

A sad day indeed.
After spending 31 years in uniform (RCAF and CAF) and another 10 years associated with the military, I am saddened each time a soldier falls and our "Highway of Heroes" is a great tribute to them. We who have served still believe in "the family".

I have attended every repatriation at the Trenton Air Station and have never seen a protester. We Canadians may not agree with every decision our politicians make but we support our troops who are the ones who defend our freedom and allow us to live in this beautiful country.
