Will the fly wheel from a gas engine M work on an MD engine. And if not, where can i find one.

Im looking for a website to ID Farmall letter series tractors by serial numbers on engine as well as frame.

Have you tried the wisconsin Historical Society's IH records?

Ther are gaps here and there, and the information is more complete for some models than others, but it's more than you'll find in any other one place.

The tree on the left of the linked page expands to link to the different production years.

My parts book shows the same part number for a gas M flywheel (up to serial #281707) as a diesel M flywheel. So, as long as your M flywheel came off an M with serial #281707 or less, then it will work on your MD.

Nebraska Kirk, Just so you know. 281707 is a gasoline engine serial #. Gas engine # 281708 or tractor serial # 294708 is when the change from 11 inch to 12 inch clutch was made. There is some question whether MD tractors were ever changed to a 12 inch clutch flywheel. Parts books for M don't show a 12 inch flywheel for MD tractors. You are right with answer except for saying engine serial # instead of tractor.

Scottys post below names a website. If you can find any MD through 450 diesel engine numbers after 1947 I would appreciate you letting me know where. If you were near me I could let you have a flywheel dirt cheap if needed. shipping would be a pain.

I will keep an eye out for what you are looking for and i'll let you know if I need the flywheel.

Thank you very much Dave
