Hydralic fluid

I noticed my hydralic fluid on my MF135 was reading directly in between the low and full marks on the dip stick. Should I be alarmed? What happens to a tractor when the fluid is low? Will it harm it?

I bought the tractor used, so if I add some what kind should I add? I"m not sure what kind they used. Is there a brand that can be mixed with all types?

Good place to ask this is on the MF board. The current oil from AGCO is called Perma-Tran 821 XL. That's the proper oil to run. If you go to TSC or wherever, a plain old hydraulic oil will not do. It has to be a Hy-Trans type of fluid, and read the label to make sure it covers MF specs.

Never tried it ourselves, but some guys ssay that generic fluid makes the multi-power act weird.

The level you mentioned is not bad as long as it stays above fill mark. Keep a watch of it though. You need to only put in Permatran 821 (previously called 1129 I think) hydraulic oil in it, which you can buy from a MF dealer. The fill is located on top next to shifter - a big bolt. You should also buy an operator's manual for the 135, as it shows where to add fluids and how to do normal maintenance. If you just bought the tractor you should really drain and replace all oils to prevent costly problems later. 135 is a great little tractor. I got one and a 165 too. Go to the MF forum site here for lots more info. Good Luck
