236 Perkins Thermostat

My neighbor has a 236 Perkins motor in a Clark forklift. He is having problems finding a thermostat for it. The one that Clark says fits it is much too small to fit in the engine block. Also, the local Massy parts dealer brought out the same thermostat that Clark did. I know that a 236 Perkins is in some Massy tractors I was just wondering if anyone out there could help us. Thanks for your help.

Go to a REAL autoparts store (the kind where at least one counterman is over 50) and ask to look at their Stant or Robertshaw catalog. You will probably find a listing for that engine, and the also have an illustrated section, with dimensions, I think.

If your local parts wharehouse can't get the part and if you are close to a Caterpillar dealer, you might try them since Cat owns Perkins or vise versa. I know they use Perkins in their smaller equipment.

Robertshaw catalog says part # 376-180 (180º, 2.75" in diameter).
