looking at getting one for some major landscaping, digging and tiling projects. Looking in that 10-12000 lb range. Know of any good one or any to stay away from. what should a guy look for on the wear side? Thanks.

You might try heavyequipmentforum.com, look around on there. They have a section just for compact excavators. You can register and talk to them.
Good Luck

Can,t beat the KUBOTAS , In any brand make sure yu buy something you can get parts and service for. Get one with factory ROPS then you can sell it when time comes to get rid of the unit.
All small excvators are hard on final drives watch for leaks and if possible get an oil sampel from the finals or at least pul the plug , look and smell . No water or burnt smells.

Kobelco SK 50 or SK 60 are favorites of mine. They can be moved on a 1 1/2 ton single axle truck. Feature I like best over CATs of the same age is after 30 sec. of non-use the throttle drops back to idle. Touch any control & it automatically revs up to where you had it set.

Don't know much about them but I am just in the process of buying a used Bobcat 334 to replace my sore elbow.Bobcat dealer is just down the road which helped in my decision. After 40 years of hand digging gardens, manure piles, trenches, you name it.

Look at IHI's Many rental companies use them and in my opinion are as good or better than the more popular brands. I have an Ihi j28 7000 lb machine. Bought it for 9 grand and has made my money back in less than a year. 2 speed travel, boom hydraulics, 3 hydro pumps, off set boom. check them out. Dave
