A friend just told me there is a product you can buy that will clear the lens cover if its turning milky. Said I could get it at an auto parts store, but couldn't remember the name. Anyone know what its called?

Mequires clear plastic polish. Sells for half the price of auto lense cleaning kits and does the same thing. Also white vinegar.

Nancy;
Do not know your truck so I wanted to ask.....
Are your headlights "smooth" and look like a piece of glass OR are they not smooth because the surface is made with bumps or ridges in it.

From what I have been told only the smooth type can be polished.
You are not really cleaning the lens but rather polishing off the top layer and getting down to clean clear plastic.

I bought LensClear but did not get to try it on my car. I gave it to the neighbor and it cleared up the yellowing, but did not get the milky stuff. This alone brightened the headlights considerably. He was pretty happy with it, though it did not do what the label claimed. He did not try the 1500/2000 grit sandpaper as others have mentioned. Perhaps when the weather clears...

Most Walmarts now offer this service in the Automotive dept. Save a lot of work. Also can order a kit from Harbor Freight. Henry

I've always just used a buffer and a mild automotive buffing compound.

I've tried a couple of commercial products and was underwhelmed with the results.

Nancy,

I don't remember the brand name, but I bought a kit at Autozone last year and restored the lenses on my wife's 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan. It contained some very fine sandpaper, some sort of buffing compound, and a sealer to use after the lenses had been buffed.

It required a fair bit of "elbow-grease" but did a very good job on her "frosty" lenses.

Good luck,

I found out that the mag-chloride solution that many highway crews now use for melting ice and snow will build up on the lenses and can't be washed off with regular hi-pressure water/soap methods. After you've washed the vehicle and it dries there is a film that stays on the lens. Rubbing alcohol and a paper towel takes it off. 8)
