OT Diesel fuel woes

I had to haul a boat for work today, about a five hour trip. Four hours out I fuel the Chebby at a Hess station and five miles up the interstate it looses power. I had to nurse it along the shoulder to the next exit. I put some STP diesel treatment in it since there were no Chevy dealers nearby and it ran great for about two hours then same deal all over again. Let it rest a few minutes and it ran another hour. This time when it went into limp mode there was a Chevy dealer on the access road at the next exit. They got it in immediately, the tech plugged in the scanner and installed a new fuel filter. I wasn't in there more than half an hour and all is good. They made my day.
This is the second diesel truck we have had this happen to this year. I have a filter on my tank at home but it looks like the filling stations have none. Whatever glop is in their tank is in yours.

i have a 06 duramaxx with 93000 miles.i change my oil every 5000 and the fuel filter every 10000. i also use diesel power service supplement with every fill up and i have never had a fuel filter issue.i travel about 150 miles a day to work and i always carry a spare filter in the truck toolbox just in case. My guess is that the fuel at the Hess station was blended bio-diesel. Bio-diesel has a detergent effect on older fuel systems and will loosen material in the tank and fuel lines and then are trapped by the filter till it plugs it up.
Happened to my Ford F-450 on my trip to Nebraska after I fueled up in Iowa. Blended fuel and by the time I got into Nebraska my fuel filter light would come on any time I tried to go over 50 MPH... Gene

I may start doing that. The tech let me watch what he did. This is an 07, 38k on the clock and hasn't missed a beat till today. I've been changing the FF at the specified interval. I may shorten that as well.
Do you reset the FF change setting in the computer?

hope this helps,
Fuel Filter Life Reset
This message will appear when a reset is performed either by using the steering wheel controls or following manual procedure.

Reset the fuel filter monitor.
For vehicles with steering wheel controls, press and hold the select button for 5 seconds while the FUEL FILTER LIFE message is displayed.
This message will appear on the driver information center (DIC) for ten seconds.

For vehicles without steering wheel controls, do the following:
3.1. Without pressing the pedals, turn the ignition key to the ON position without starting the engine.

3.2. Wait 5 seconds.

3.3. Completely press the brake and the accelerator pedals simultaneously and hold for 10 seconds. The system is now reset.

3.4. Turn the ignition key OFF.

The next time the engine is started, the message will no longer be displayed.
ALWAYS reset the FUEL FILTER LIFE system after a fuel filter change.

yes i reset it but i still change it every 10000 miles.for $20 im not gonna be setting along the interstate if i can help it. RICK

I had the same thing happen on my 97 F250, put a tank of bio-diesel in it and within 30 miles the filter was plugging up. Someone else posted about the cleaning effect, does this mean one should run a tank of bio-diesel through every now and then?
