noise from left rear

whining noise coming from left rear tire area on fARMALL SUPER A that I purchased over weekend. Any ideas on this or do they all whine when they are old. Have not checked transmission levels yet but going to soon. Any input would be helpful.

Some whining noise is normal because of the way the gear reduction operates. Make sure the fluid in the final drive is the correct level. Each rear wheel has its own gear reduction unit and will have its oil level. If this is low, it could make more noise. Checking the rest of the fluids would be a good start. If the fluid is milky (an indicator of water in the oil), that's probably not helping you any.

Good luck.

Final drive gear oil ok and looks clean but found out transmission is leaking from a check plug that was left out and around left brake seal nest to fender and oh yes a little hole we had to put jb weld in. It was very milky from water so got a guy starting on it thursday and he wants to use the 140 weight gear oil for trans and final drive and pto. He use to work for ih harvester for over 25 years. Thanks for your comment and info. Now I know I paid too much for the tractor but at least I will have it and the motor is good and I guess the transmission too just that it leaks. Have a good week
