O/T: Fly control strategies?

It's a bit chilly here, but I've been thinking about the warmer months. Every year we go through a battle with flies. We've got neighbors with cattle and we've got animals, too. That leads to flies. They always seem to get into the house, sometimes more, sometimes less. When we have the A/C on, it is a lot less, but they still get in. It doesn't help when the kids come in and go out several times every five minutes and have to hold the door open for half a minute each time, but now I'm just being picky.

The way I have handled it is to periodically bomb the house with dairy barn flyspray. I know that stuff is supposedly a 'safe' insecticide, but I have my doubts, and besides it costs money. In addition to which, my wife gets unhappy about where those little critters decide to expire sometimes.

Anyway, what do you folks do to handle this kind of situation?

Use parisite wasp. We have used them for years on the dairy and have very few flies. Neighbor went in using them lasT year so together we cover a large area and a lot of animals. Get ours from "Spalding". Contact and they will send the right amount. CAN NOT US ANY INSECTICIDE.

Yep, we use the Spalding "fly predators" as well and they do a decent job. SUbscription service- they send you a box of larvae every few weeks.

Take a 2 litre pop bottle cut the top off before it curves up towards the neck. remove cap and label and place a chunk of raw meat inside. Then invert the top part to close the trap and if cut right it will seal. When there are fly eggs on the meat, dump in a little hot water and it will kill the eggs then let the water drain out and the flies will be back for the meat again. Boiling water will mess up the bottle so just make it good and hot. As far as I know the female fly dies anwyway when the eggs are laid. so by killing off the offspring before they hatch sure puts a big dent in the poplulation IF you keep up with it. That also works for fruit flies but use fruit and vinegar for bait.
