For people new to the ga engine repair world, there are names for some parts that throw them, like generator (brushes)whitch are nothing like paint brushes. Can you think of other terms that are hard for the beginner to understand??????????

"Service Engine Soon" light, which means "You are polluting", NOT "Your engine is in deep trouble"!

Funny, folks freak out when the AMBER "SES" light comes on, then when a RED "OVERHEAT" or "NO OIL PRESSURE" light comes on they drive 'til it won't go any farther!

Cotter(or Carter) key (or pin)
O-ring, snap ring(inside or outside)
Woodruff Key
ferrel
Those things on the ends of your shoe laces that I can't even remember.

Not trying to hijack you thread, but I agree on the different names. Like why is corn called corn and beans are called beans, you never heard of corns,or wheats, barleys, oats maybe but it is oat straw, or bean straw not beans straw. And it should be cows manure when you have more than one cow, usually it cow manure no matter how many cattle you have. the play with "s's"

A few more:

- generator FIELD
- clutch DOG
- steering WORM
- BULL gear
- PACKING nut
- injector BLEED screw
- PONY motor
- BALLAST resistor

Probably should also include "JESUS clip"...

How about bowden cable. I only found out yesterday it is the springy cable like choke cable. A little off the toic, here is a few for the Navy guys Prop wash, Butt Kit, mid rats, mid watch, sos, wire rope, enginman, dipsy dumster.sand crabs. and a lot more I can't remember. Stan

Prop wash ( current created in the water by the motion of the propellers). Butt Kit ( toilet paper?) Mid rats (midnight rations, food) Mid watch (late watch) SOS ( version of "mayday" for wireless or telegraph, sometimes refered to as "save our ship", came into use about the time the Titanic sank) Sos, in the Army Sh*t on a shingle, hash on toast. wire rope (cable) enginman (modern rate is EN, may be up for being phased out soon and replaced by MM in the old days there were "firemen" part of the "black gang")
dimpsy dumster (trash bin) sand crabs ( sand crabs)

Know what a brass monkey is? Scuttlebutt? Head? Angle on the bow? Swayback Mauru? Plankowner? Torpedo fluid? Fathom?

Is this a test?

This is not a test, but if it was you would have a passing grade. Prop wash is the air comming off of a plane prop. Butt kit is a place to put smokes out in. SOS is as you described it both ways I was thinking of food. Sand crabs were refered to as non military working on the Navy base. Stan

Never served in the service, but have a son in the Navy, I think we have corresponded about him before.

I am a history buff and read a lot.

I should have thought about the prop was a little more. I knew that.

how about the JESUS nut, The big nut that holds the propeller blades onto the heliocopter.
