I wish to replace the muffler on my 4.3 V6 Chevy With a piece of straight ( curved) pipe. Will this cause any problems with back pressure etc?

If you run it all of the way to the rear the noise won t be too bad, no, back pressure is not a problem, and even if it was the catalytic converter has plenty.

No. Less back pressure = more power, greater fuel economy. EFI constantly adjusts fuel ratio for optimum air fuel ratio.
