MF 4345, MF 399, MF 1085, MF1105 comparisons.

We are thinking about possibly buying another tractor and we would like some facts and opinions on which models would be the most long lasting and trouble free. We would be interested in engine size, fuel economy, hydraulic capacity, etc. We would like to use it for raking hay, thus the need for consistent hydraulic power. Thankyou for your time and have a good day.

The 399 would be 10 years or so newer than the 1085 and about 10-15 HP more. The 285 is the utility version of the same tractor and that's what we have.

Great tractor and pretty economical. 318 4 cyl Perkins that puts out 85 HP. 540 PTO, and if you can find a 1000 RPM shaft they have 1000 RPM capabilties as well. I'm guessing your rake would be a hydraulic driven model? Should work.

Drove a 399 once or twice on a relatives farm, but can't tell you much about them. Was a good tractor though. Don't know much about the rest of the models you listed either.

The 1105 were good old tractors a friend had recurring hyd pump failures. The 1085's had a terrible rep in this area. Of the 8 to 10 of them i know of all are gone, none are still being used. Lots of trans problems. The 399's seam ok, some of guys say it can take a long time to get some parts. I saw one set in a dealers shop for 3 months. The 4345 is the newest and their upper grade tractor.

I have a 1974 model 1105 that I have a loader attatched to and then use it for hay work. The 354 Perkins is a indestructable motor and the hydraulics work fine, the power steering is a little weak. The cabs in the Masseys are real nice. This is the only Massey I have personal experience with but a friend of mine has two of the compariable next generation models and they all have had to have trans upgrades.

I know nothing about the 4345,399 and 1105 were great tractors, unless you have a death wish on your bank account and mental stability, stay well clear of the 1085.pd.

Don't know anything about the 4345, 399. Have a 1080 (1085's older brother) and it is OK with no major problems. However if I was to do it all over again my choice would be a 1105.

Not a big fan of the 1085. I always thought ours looked like more tractor than it was. The hydraulics were week but it was a good feed grinding tractor.
