Got her going last night. I fixed my dumb mistake on the carb and stuck it on, and managed to get it running with the crank. It looks like the starter is shot. The guy told me it worked.

Oh well. Shes alive!! A $200 running C!!

Thanks Everyone!!

And BTW, the carb from the parts fairy will go back on the B when im done painting it, i just thought i'd borrow it for the C....

Congratulations on getting it running. It is always a surprise when hand cranking actually works, if you are not used to doing it.

One suggestion: when you hand crank a tractor, don't grab the handle in the obvious way with your thumb on one side of the handle and your fingers on the other side. Instead, always tuck your thumb up next to your index finger on the same side of the handle. Then crank away and hope she starts.

The reason for this is that the tractor may "kick back" against the crank, especially if the timing is off or a mag impulse coupling sticks. With your thumb next to your fingers, the handle can easily come out of your hand should this happens. With your thumb over the crank, your hand can get trapped on the handle and forced back against your forearm, leading to a broken wrist. This used to be a common injury, back in the era of hand-cranked cars.

I can remember my Dad teaching me this over 40 years ago...

my internet has been down so this is the first chance i got to look at the c so that's great now you can "C" that all are not the nightmare you have had and that your time on the others have helped you to make short work of a simple repair.

Inspiration is the foundation of progress. I am glad you are an inspired young man. Nice effort. Reality is a great teacher of respect for reality. JimN

Well done, Lanse! I've been in your shoes before, and it's a wonderful experience.

I need to concur with David, and speak from experience, you need to learn to tuck that thumb in when you crank a tractor. If she decides to kick you, that will be a battle you WILL lose.

Now that you have it running, go tuck her away, and finish the B.

Since you are dismantling the barn, will you have a place to store your tractors inside once they are finished? It would be a shame to get them all pretty, then have them living outside.

Very Cool.

Just learn how to crank a tractor the right way before you do it again...if that thing kicked on you, well you would have been in a world of hurt.

Stand off to the side and pull up in short strokes. Keep you thumb out of the way too.

I've had one come back and get me in the wrist. Wasn't too bad, just black and blue but it could have been MUCH worse.

ALL RIGHT LANCE!!

Just remember how you felt a few days ago, and the thrill of how good it was to hear that engine start!

NOW.....................get the other one finished!!

Well done Lanse. Really a good feeling to bring one back to life isn't it. Now finish the "B" so we can all start working on our own tractors instead of yours. LOL. We all knew you would learn haow to do these things. You had some of the best teachers that you could get even if they are long distance. Keep it up.

Yes, she did have oil pressure. Good oil pressure, between the R and the M on "normal" the needle sticks straight up.

Now we get to take her for a spin :)
