JD 2010 gas pros and cons

Hey all ,
I'm looking at some different tractors my wife likes the 2010s. Looking at gas ones. They seem reasonably priced . Not to big not to small. I'm sure a few of you have had experiences with them. I'd appreciate any input good and bad about them.

Thanks

Had one with loader. Not the best tractor. The hydraulic system did not take much trash to cause it to clog up. In fairness, it worked better after I kept it under shelter. The hydraulic filter is at the right bottom of the transmission housing under the seat. It has a wire mesh filter which supposedly can be cleaned out occasionally. I found that after a couple of cleanings it was best to replace it. On the plus side, the hydraulics have fairly good capacity and the 3ph is very sturdy and well designed, but then JD had been using that design for a few years.

The transmission is finicky. The shift linkage is complicated and gives trouble. The linkage on the left bottom of the transmission needs to be adjusted just right. If the tractor can make use of all 8 gears you are lucky.

It does have independent PTO which worked fine the few times I used it.

The engine's head has an unusual gasket system which you need a look at a parts breakdown to understand. There is a steel plate at the top of the block holding all 4 sleeves. Fortunately I never had any personal experience with it but I understand that rebuilding an engine is interesting. I was told the same 45 hp engine is used in the 45 JD combine.

It is easy to get on and off with no levers in the floor to tangle your feet. Tractor is heavily built and is stable when operating.

I enjoyed the one as much as I could stand it and don't want another.

JD 1010 and 2010 where 2 of the worst tractors JD ever made and had problems from the get go and where only built for 1-2 years because of problems. I would stay away from them

Pro (singular) only one. It's a John Deere so if you get stuck with it,you'll always be able to find somebody foolish that'll take it off your hands who doesn't know better.

Cons, the 1010 and 2010 were arguably the worst tractors that Deere ever made. If you're bent on a Deere,go with a 1020 or 2020. Totally different tractors. I've had a 1020 with a loader for better than 27 years. Beat the daylights out of it everyday doing cattle feeding and cleaning chores. Can't hurt that thing. 2010 though, run away as far and as fast as you can. Let somebody else deal with that disapointment.

For what it"s worth, we"ve had a JD 2010 (gas) for close to 20 years and have little to no trouble with it. We"ve had to change one hydraulic line due to a crack at the flare. We"ve also overhauled the carb 2 times (I think). We"ve used it to move round bales, cut rake and bale square bale hay, and run a hydraulic post driver without any major problems. More than that, it is the best starting tractor we have. Even at 5 degrees, it starts on the first turn over. I know there are some folks out there who really don"t like the 2010 (especially the diesel), but our 2010 gas is one of the most reliable tractors we"ve ever owned.

I bleed green. But 1010 and 2010 were TERRIBLE tractors. Just about any other model would be a better choice. I like the 3010D from that era.
