OT/Lights out day

I'll just hit and run here, got things to do,BUT,did any of these environmental wackjobs who planned this turn off your lights at 8PM thing, ever stop to think that there are 24 different timezones in the world? Guess right now I'm participating with "lights off in Africa" or something. Every light in the house is off, just like everyday in the daytime. Do I get credit for that?

It's like this see.....The Enviromental wackjobs want to try to control your life for you. Never mind if you pay your electric bill or work for a living, or want to watch TV. They think that you should comply cause you want to be controlled by their socialist/pinko/commie agenda. Now if somebody want to save a few bucks a month by not turning on their lights or reading instead of watching the TV then great. But I dont give a rip about Earth day, save the whales or ozone actions day.

In fact I think I will go out and log up trees in the woods tomorrow, just to pi$$ them off. Yeah, I will call my buddy Jim and he and I will cut up trees for firewood. Sounds good to me.

I accidentally spilled some varnishy gas on the ground to celebrate. Oh, and to prolong the celebration, that gas is evaporating out of the container.

I don't know why you guys are surprized at this. The enviro-nazis have been in the dark for years. Along with most politicians.

Just to be fair, I've had one of those little 60W flouresent bulbs for about 10 years or more. It is in the garage as a night lite.

It saves so much energy I leave it on 24-7. wink

Hello rrlund,
What happen to earth day? Is it just one our now?
How about all of us giving more than we take 24/7. There is only one( Spaceship Earth), we are all in it.
That would make a difference don't you think?
Guido.

I plan to have every light blazing at 8PM accompanied by a continuous dusk 'til dawn light show displayed on the front of my 60' wide white machine shed.

Well I live out west where the majority of our power comes from Hydro Electric. Now if we shut down everything we will not save any power because the dams have to let the excess water go over the top instead of though the generators. Wasted water in my opinion.

My daughter is here with my 2 grandkids visiting ! There won"t be turning off of anything here....five minutes after I turn a light or t.v. off, it"s back on again! I"m gettin too old to keep up with the little rascals!

Well, the way I see it,my lights will be off for a good 10 hours today,so that means I'm participating in 10 different time zones. So,must be I care ten times more that any of the tree huggers do. WOW,this feels great! I think I'll do it again at 8PM mountain time. It's such a great idea that I'll probably leave them off the rest of the night. This feels great! I'd better be careful though. I might end up being elected President of the Sierra Club by proclaimation.

More than half of Oregon"s electricity comes from coal, gas, and nuclear sources. All are non-renewable.

The 44 percent from hydro does not make a viable
excuse to selfishly waste energy.

If you need it, fine. Use it wisely.

But don"t waste it under the guise that it is "free".

In lieu of lights out, I plan to avoid any chili or pickled eggs this week. That will represent an enormous savings on global warming gas emissions. That is a lot more effort than just sitting in the dark for an hour, don"t you think?

Depends on the year - how much snowmelt collects up behind the dam. If you were in the Missouri River basin, it might depend on how much gets diverted to push coal slurry through a pipeline, or some other suspicious scheme. It's not like a farm pond.

Just think this is is only the start folks. It is going to get worse. Don't blame me I voted for the other guy. Stan

I understand this is planned by the UN and foistered on those who believe in that??institution??.... As for me and my family we will leave the lights on or off when we please. The envionmentalists at the UN are preparing a big deal to clean up the atmosphere. Don't forget, last week they called us deadbeats because we won't pay for what we do not agree with. We still support them more than any other nation. They should move their headquarter to Iran or someplace in Africa . Lets see if they can murder citizens and never pay a traffic citation or go to court in any of those other places.. ...........Henry

All they are doing is testing us. They want to know if we are amenable to their suggestions. I hope there is a spike and overload "brown out" starting at 8 pm. That should let them know we are not sheepie. Someone should send them a Frank Sinatra tape with the song "I Did It My Way".

And that brings up the musical question: how many innocent men will be shot "when the lights go out in Georgia"?

Those that were forces, are the same that burn crosses, Thoses that died are justified, for wearing the badge there the choosen white.

After Hurricane Dolly came through here last year, we had our lights out (as well as the well pump, fridge etc.) for 6 days so I reckon we already paid our dues.

My wife thinks I am a nut anyway, but at 8:30 local time (It was supposed to be at "local" time the way I heard) I turned on every dam*ned light on the place. I would have gone down to the barns and shop but it was so cold and rainy I didn't do it. After a while the wife came through the house in a tizzy and scolded me. I told her I was protesting the protest.

Now she has more ammunition that I am nuts.

I turned every light on in my house and outside Saturday night for an hour to show my "support" for those idiots. Odumbo mentioned something about "smart" meters that tell you that you are using too much electricity. A great gubbament idea! I think I will listen to Big Brother by Rare Earth one more time.
