Only in the Texas Panhandle

Nearly 70 degrees yesterday, woke up to 25 degrees and blizzard like conditions this morning. Headed out to work and had to turn around and come back home, couldn"t see the road. They are predicting 6 to 12 inches by morning and 80 degrees on Sunday. I love Panhandle winters.

Here in Rolla Ks I warmed the pickup up and finally got out of the drive and went around the block
Decided I did not need to go anywhere today.
Snow is not but about 6 inches deep but is frozen underneath and snow is wet enough it is real hard to push thru.
A stay at home day!!!!

Its not just the panhandle, its Texas. It was 70 something here in Dallas yesterday. Weather is supposed to tank this afternoon with very strong winds.

Supposed to hit mid 50"s tomorrow, but with a steady 25+ mph wind, windchill is predicted to be in the teens.

Temp Sat nite is supposed to hit 33. I couldn"t go to E. Tx this weekend (got a horse on antibiotics) so I guess I"ll loose my tomato plants. Se la vi! That"s life, especially in Tx.

Guess you have never been to Iowa. 70 degrees one day 25 below the next.begging for rain for a month then 10 inches in 4 hours. And i wont even get started on the subject of mud.

I heard that the planet Venus is directly between the earth and the sun and it is affecting the weather world wide. I don't know, I am not a weatherman.

Gray don't feel bad here in Missouri they are calling for that 6-12 inches of snow tomorrow but if your nice you will rope it and keep it out your way.

Hi, I drove through there on Feb 16th weather was great then. What were they planting around Abilene that day?

Venus between earth and sun you must have been in the way back row in science class with the person who rold you that. If you believe that how about roundtrip tickets to see the sight as it probably wont happen again if were are lucky. No wonder the US is messed up if we have people saying things like that and then those who would post it on the net.

Just looked it up and says that it can get within 38mill miles of earth so we better get ready congress just try and move it.

Yep - Dad's peach trees are loaded with blooms, but it got down to 19 this morning here, so they are probably history...

seen on the news at noon, ya'll are having snow and it's 87* in laredo texas. only in texas.

started blowing yet?when we had our office out at Amarillo that was the coldest place on the planet I believe, and snow could pile up in nothing flat.Someone here said they were already getting drifts 2-3' deep up at Guymon.

I was working on the Albertsons in Amarillo years ago. Middle of Jan and the snow was really blowing across the roof. Kept telling myself to find a warmer job. Don't think I thawed out for three days

I'm surprised at the weather around Amarillo Tx. Other than being, higher, a little drier and less humid. It resembles the Lemmington Ontario area way, way up on the north shore of Lake Erie.

Given the 'intelligence' level of most of the mainstream media, including your clueless 'weatherbozo', why shouldn't they come up with some off the wall theory like that?
After all, these are the same morons that feel the need to tell the citidots how to dress for the day.

I work out there some along highway 54, abundant, Guymon, Texhoma down thru West of Dalhart. I love the OK and TX panhandles. Very tough part of the world. Some days you need insulated bibs in the morning and a T-shirt in the afternoon. The people out there are tough as nails.

maybe the incompetent, nit-wit, imposter, criminal, inept, derelict, puppet administration we have in power now can throw another TRILLION at it. What is another trillion to them?

The one thing I did see in the panhandle was the dust storms. Could not believe how bad it got. My mother lived through them back in the thirties.Told me that it would get dark at noon because of the dust.Several people she knew killed themselves because they could not take it anymore. Dust was everywhere. They even had hospitals set up for people dying from breathing in so much dust.

I can remember back in 1957 when we finally dug through the drifts to try and get into town for food we found a man froze to death hanging on the barbwire fence out west of Dimmitt. He had tried to get out to Hwy 86 and didn't make it through the fence. If you see a year like 57 you wil never forget it.

Did my basic training in Amarillo July 1966 didn't dare go AWOL for fear you could go three days and they still could see you nothin but oil wells and jackrabbits. LOL

I was working in Borger, Tx during the blizzard of 1957. Me and some more guys had gone to lake Texoma in SE Ok. This was Easter weekend and we had a 3-day weekend which turned out to be much longer. We were told not to travel west because all hotels were full and the roads blocked. When we were finally able to travel we went through drifts that were as tall as a building--they were cleared for one way traffic. When we finally got home our houses were drifted roof level on south side. Many cows were drowned at this time.

We were living in the panhandle in 57 and that was probably the blizzard my Dad talked about. I think he said it was March 24. He went out to milk cows and walked right into a wall of snow so he went back to bed. They were without phone and power for days. After it was over the cows could walk right over the fences on the drifts. 70 mph winds and wet snow was lethal to anything in it.

Sounds a lot like the weather in Nebraska. Like they say if you dont like the weather here wait a few minutes and it'll change. Weekend temps were in the high 70's, Monday was 70+ and by Mon. night we had snow. We've had a few days 'round here where its thunder and lightning along with snow.

Guys, railhead is right! Spent 10 yrs farming and ranching in the Texhoma area. Howard H was raised inbetween Texhoma & Stratford. Great people but the weather is fickle as thunder. Like railhead said need your insulated Overalls in the morning, and 24 hrs later or less just a flannel Shirt or just a T-shirt sometimes.
At my old home out west of town the only thing inbetween my house and the north pole were 3, 3 line barbwire fences and 2 of them were down. The North wind sureenough can get high.
Later,
John A.

We had some cows that we had to feed and to get back to the house which was north of the barn we had to walk backwards because the wend would blow the snow in your face so hard you couldn't breath. My dad had a DC3 Case and we used some old cotton sacks to make a homemade comfort cover and finaly made it to town and when we did get there the grocery store was almost empty. Good thing Mother had the seller full of caned food.

I was at Hart Sale the first day, and part of the second, but after that, I left while the getting was good and then it warmed up. I see Nixon has those sale prices posted on the web site. was sure a heck of a large sale, and all I came home with was a few pedals and a Dr.Pepper sign.
