are tobbacco seeds regulated by the government? if not where can i get a handfull? i want to see if it will grow on my place for my own personal use, not to sell,i dont think anybody in the state is growing tobbacco but i have good soil and reasonable humidity , my place is right by a small stream in a shaded valley, any comments on the idea?

You can purchase them at most any farm supply store here in Ky. They would probably ship them to you. The seeds have to be started in a greenhouse or covered bed and then transplanted. A teaspoon of seed will produce about 10,000 plants.

Don't know how big your place is or how much of a nic pheen you are but when you find some for sale don't ask for a hand full. A small pinch will grow more than most folks could smoke/chew in a year. Far as I know there is no regs on seeds. Bout the only strangle hold gooberment has on baccer any more is the tax on the retail end of it. The USDA's tobacco program ended about 5 years ago.

If you get a plant to go to seed, you will have enough for a long time to plant many acres. I don't know how long the germination would last.

www.plantationhouse.com or www.rickardseeds.com will get you to tobbaco specific seed sales.Plantation House seems to be home grower orientated sales.

When I was in school at Murray State there was some guys cleaning out their granddad's tool shed and found a jar of seeds. Granddad still had his wits about him but could not recall put'n it there. After a while he figured it had to have been in there since the 30's or 40's. The boys seeded a few trays with them and it better than 50% germ and was some of the best baccer they had ever raised.

That said a packet of seed would last a home grown grower most of their life.
