Kohler engine question?

I'm helping my neighbor work on a Kohler single cylinder engine. The ID tag is worn off. Is there any other way to ID what hp we are working on? Thanks.

I would pull the head off and check the bore and stroke.

Roughly how old is it and what was it in originally?

You can count the bolts that are on the
head. The six-bolt head fits the K-91
with a bore and stroke of 2.375 X 2.000; displacement of 8.86.
The K-161 has 7 bolts on the head with a
bore and stroke of 2.938 X 2.500; displacement of 16.94. The
K-181 also has 7 bolts with a bore and
stroke of 2.938 X 2.750; displacement of 18.64. The K-241 has
9 bolts with a bore and stroke of 3.251 X
2.875; displacement of 23.85. The K-301 has 10 bolts with a bore
and stroke of 3.375 X 3.250; displacement of 29.07. The K-321 has
10 bolts with a bore and stroke of 3.500 X
3.250; displacement of 31. Let me know if you
need more info as I have the manual on these

Kohler has a good web site. I just downloaded manual and service tec for a K341 (John Deere garden tractor).
