1930 Chevy Car Value?

I am trying to help some people with an estate, and they have a nice Chevy car that I believe is a 1930. It is a 4 door coupe with suicide doors. I know it runs, it has been painted (nice), tires and everything are good. Original lights front and rear. The top has a leather strip through the middle. The inside upholstery has not been restored, but is there and could be used, just not the nicest. Would anyone know a close value of this car, or a website that I might be able to find out? Thanks for any help you can give.

i would list it in the hemmings motor news. 600 pages of old cars and parts, comes out every month to all us old car people. www.hemmings.com/advertise

Friends of mine in a similar stuation sold one locally here last summer for 10,000, front end damage but original and running. Was going into restoration by the new owner(local buyer).

Bob1,

Some years ago I had a friend who was a commercial real estate salesman/developer. I once asked him about the value of a particular piece of real estate. He told me that it was worth, "whatever he could get for it". I imagine that a specialty item like the car you mentioned is worth "whatever you can get for it."

Having said that, I attended an estate auction about a year ago where they sold a late 1930's or early 1940 Chevy. Unrestored but solid. Engine ran, clutch worked. Car drove.

This was at an auction out in the country in Middle Tennessee. The car sold for something more than $25,000.00 (I don't remember the exact amount but I remember that it was more than $25,000.00.)

The key is going to be finding the right buyer, not just any buyer.

Good luck,

Lot less than it was 3 months ago. Good model A probably about 10 - 15 grand. Go from there. So many small details mean so much. Find qualified appraiser. Look on EBay at old cars, only for a start. Know how EBay works so you can analyze properly. Where in what state? Wish I could see it. Dave

They are worth about 250.00 I will come and pick it up tomorrow. Just kidding. There is a two door on ebay now for 18,500.00. like someone else said it is just how bad someone wants one. Stan

Saw a nice one while attending a garage sale.WIFE SAID 14,000.there was a divorce so who knows what husband really wanted. It was real nice. The Chevys were a grade above the Fords.Hard to compare anything on ebay.

Being around a hot rod guy all day, hed probably say 400 - 500, give his usuall wrong color, 4 door bull that I have grown very tired of hearing. His father on the other hand, who does build hot rods, but appreictaes the value of a classic, ould probably says 15000 - 20000.

Heres a Picture of my Dad in his 1928 Chevrolet Sedan taken in 1936 a year before I was born.It ended up as a doodlebug we called it for use on the farm. The body was removed from the dash back and a bed was built on the back part to haul stuff in. About 1950 it was given to a guy that ran a Junk Yard.So long old paint. JC

There are way to many variables to even begin to assign a value based on your description. You need to find an apraiser in your area to truly determine the potential value. Some old cars are very valuable and bring several thousand dollars, other old cars are just old cars and really not worth much. It will be worth spending a few bucks so that you fully understand what you have before trying to sell.

the real thing to look at on a chevy that age is the wood parts, the reason you dont see nearly as many of them is they used wood in places most cars didnt,If it has all the parts and is solid it should bring a good price but if the wood parts are missing or deteriorated to where they cant be duplicated the value drops very fast.i'd look at selling it fairly soon though if possible, because it sure appears the market for these old things are going down fast.good freind rebuilt a 29 chevy and he had tons of time and labor in trying to get all the wood to fit up right.sure made a pretty car though.
