LACQUER THINNER V.S THE WORKS TOILET CLEANER

I have a 1948 Farmall M, Im currently rebuilding it. I have ran into a problem with the carb, it is a cast iron carb but the main butter fly if froze it will not move at all. So my question for all is, Would Lacquer Thinner and the works toilet bowl cleaner work, I am curently soaking in Diesel, LET ME KNOW

Thanks!

Some of those old cast iron main chambers have bronze bushings for the shafts to revolve in/on so "iF " there are not any rubber seals or something that will melt nearby use a small headed tip (pencil type) with some Mapp/propane fuel and heat the two support bushings and you should be good to go. Another method I have used is to boil it in water and then take it out using a good pair of leather work gloves so you don't get burned to be able to hold on to the base as you work the shaft back and forth,,,,, otherwise . what I have found to work fairly well with seized parts is rubbing alcohol for starters and then ATF mixed. Hope this helps... Jim

Kano Labs has a product called,Kroiloil, guarantee it will loosen any rusted part. Comes in 10oz spray as Aerokroil or by the gal.as Kroil for pump oiler use. www.kanolabs.com for particulars.Good stuff.I use it.JC

The paint thinner will dry the gum in the carb out for sure. I have used that before. Soaking in diesel isn't a bad idea either. I think with either one, time is most important.

Lacquer thinner is about like using water to loosen rust, it will clean a little, but not much. The toilet bowl cleaner is an acid product and again, will not dissolve rust. Get some good penetrating oil or ATF and let it soak, it did not freeze up over night, it is not going to free up over night.

Go back and look at your first post> I told you then what is the best and it is made just for carbs and it will do what you need to do. Stop wasting your time with all the other stuff and buy some Berrymans and be done with it

Toliet bowl cleaner is for for use in the bathroom.Lacquer thinner is used and made for painting. These products are not the best solution for the problem you describe.Either purchase some carb dip and submerge the carb in it or purchase a can of Kroil made by Kano Industries and start spaying it down with it.If you can ever get the shaft to move a little then, the Kroil will free it up so you can remove it.But you will then need the dip cleaner to clean the carb.I don't claim to be an expert but,I've been using Berryman's Chem Dip for close to 40 years on carbs and it does a great job.Just dissasemble the carb then submerge it and let it soak for a few hours. Then take it out and wash the carb and parts with water. Then get a can or two of of carb and choke cleaner and some wire for the passages and some compressed air.Run the wire through all the passages, spay the cleaner through it and blow it out with the compressed air.Read the instuctions that come with the new kit, take your time and it will work.Do a half a&&ed job with inferior products and rush at it and it won't work.If all else fails a little common sense will usually prevail.

Depends on why it is stuck.

Varnished old gas some good thinner or carb. cleaner will help dissolve it.

If plain old rust then the Works Toilet Bowl cleaner does wonders on plain old rust. It won't do anything for the varnish though.
