tractor lubricant question

While at the JD dealer today they had spray cans of graphite lubricant, what would that be used for? I'm familiar with the graphite for corn planters thats powder but this was in a rattle can like spray paint.
 
Any bearing / bushing or surface where you would want graphite lube to run inside and dry to a hard paint like layer of graphite. Works great on hoppers, cone bottom tanks or wagons so things slide easily.
 
I taped off the friction areas on my MF65 dry brakes and sprayed everthing else with dry graphite spray. No grabbing brakes for me! Any wet lubricant would have gathered brake dust. We use it for roller chains and slides at work. Great stuff...

Agree with everyone on this. I know of at least two types of spray ons know as "graphite."

The Air Force uses Solid Film Displacement(?) SFD graphite on their LAU 88, 118, 117, LAU 105, Aero 3B etc. missile launcher rails to provide lubricant and corrosion treatment between the missile hangers and the launcher's rails. They also use it on suspension hooks and cams on bomb racks and pylons. Have also seen it used on M16 magazines for the same purpose. This form dries to a "hard" surface and will build up an appreciable thickness. It leaves a surface similar to drak grey primer and doesn't attract dirt or sand anymore than a painted surface.
We used to use a Schaefer spray-on graphite around home that was much thinner, darker in color and didn't seem to harden on roller chains and door linkages. This type never seemed to really harden or build up.
