OT: New Truck

My Ford F150 is 9 years old now, and I"ve been pricing new trucks. I really like the Ford, as I"ve had no major problems in 9 years, but I really don"t care for the new square grille. Anyway, Dodge seems to have the best deal, but I worry about problems they have had in the past. Are they good trucks these days? I"m looking at single cab, shortbed Hemi....

I have had a '92 Voyager, and a '97 Ram van (full size) and they each developed electrical problems, of which they could not supply me with the repair parts (connectors melting). Got tired of it, now drive all GMs. Greg

That's the kind of stuff that worries me! I really like the GMC, but they tell me that they can't remove that stupid OnStar antennae from the roof! Maybe, (okay, not maybe), I'm anall, but that "sharkfin" sticking out of the roof kills it for me.

(had to add 2nd L to anall, or it wouldn't post!)

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 with the Hemi. 18 mpg on the highway. Only problem I have had in 48,000 miles is a burned out brake light. Great Truck.

Have you looked for a new '08? In December when I bought my '06 F-150, they had a bunch of '08's they were still trying to sell.

If you are thinking about a Dodge.........Chrysler may not be around in a year or 2. And getting Dodge parts may be real tough if Chrysler tanks.

and you think GM will i'll put my money in Dodge any day over GM and do you think parts are just going to disappear

F 150 new 08's in this weeks paper 10800.00 not a lot of details. Usually just sold but, I have this honey for 32k.
The silver bullet in in the chamber for Dodge! NO warrenty work so buy it and love it.

Satrin is gone in 2011 with Pontiac to follow in 2012. GMC truck in the future don't know the date yet.

I'd stick with a Ford. I've got a 2005 1500 4x4 Dodge with 52000 miles on it. So far I've had to put on 2 emissions pumps, and EGR, something in the computer?? and a front pump for the transmission. Now the heater doesn't work. In addition there is a huge blind spot at the front pillar. This truck is used for mostly light hauling. I replaced an F150 that had over 280,000 that had only been in the shop for routine maintenance. I may have just got a lemon but I'll not buy another Dodge.

I tried to find a new 2008. GMC, Ford, and Dodge all the same. Nothing out there! Problem is, I want REGULAR Cab, SHORT bed, and V8. Seems like everything has gone to extended cabs, with all the bells and whistles!

I'm fed up with the wimpy trucks that are built today...My wife is P.O'd but I just bought a 1986 Chevy ,standard cab, diesel , automatic , 4x4 pick up truck......With 2,449 original miles on it....[Our government hard at work with our tax dollars]...Was Illinois National Guard Reserves radio truck...The passenger door is caved in by some non-caring forklift operator..Paint is still on the floor on drivers side..Bed has never hauled anything...The man I purchased it from has changed the differential ratios to 3.73 instead of 4.56...radiator and heater core was changed because of age..new shocks , hoses and belts , oils and filters , new aluminum wheels and tires..I need to skin the passengers door , Paint the truck[ thinking about '92 Camaro dark teal] , and find a dash pad and rubber mat for it..Now , This is one tuff truck....I hope to keep this one for years...The '86 cost me 5 grand...My '05 Silverado will be for sale shortly....

I just ordered a new F150 last week. Went to 3 Ford dealers. None of them had a whole lot of choices. They are not keeping very much on the lot with the way the economy is. That's why I had to order what I wanted. Also, 1 dealer said Ford is shutting down most truck production during the month of April since not much is selling. Pete

I run dodge and have for years. But anything from 94 on up is scarrrrry. Even worse from 2002 up!!!

Got a 96 Dodge 1500 4x4 with 5.9/360 with little over 314,000mi. Do all service myself and use nothing but synthetic oils and suc. Cost me tires, brakes, etc and I use it like a 2500 series. First Dodge I ever owned and am sold. Freinds have newer ones and have no significant issues. Not saying they are any better than other brands; but, any of them can have a lemon or two now and again. If your looking for a good deal on 08, try Holzhauser (sp) in Nashville, Il. Had a good collection couple weeks ago, decent to deal with and outprices anyone in the St Louis area.

I know this isn't exactly what you had in mind, but will save you $$$ and give you some real stylin. Back in the '60's was a show called "Gentle Ben" and the bear's family had this neighbor named Mr. Boomhauer or something like that. Now, that fella had the ride of all rides as I recall. While that kid Mark's father drove around in a big fan boat, Mr. Boomhauer or whatever his name was used to terrorize the Everglades in that big one of a kind thing as he drove as I recall. Even when Mark's dad had the green light in his fan boat, he'd always come to a stop in the weeds cause Boomhauer or whatever his name was would come plowing through in that buggy thing of his cause he could. Never even got any tickets cause he was friends with Mark's dad, whom had a badge as I recall. So...I'll come over with a cutting torch, some big tires, and a whole lot of beer, and you and me can head down to your barn and save you some real big $$$ and get you stylin. You got any flat bar stock and a welder? We'll probably need that for sure. Grin.

Good luck with your decision, and thanks for not being afraid to invest. Oh yeah, your truck now...V6 or V8? I'll bring some upturned headers so you won't be gettin any swamp water up in that motor after we get done makin you style.

Mark

Since Ford hasn't taken bailout money, yet, they are the PC choice.

But there is a better chance that if you buy a Toyota you will have the best truck made today.

If your looking for a new 4x4, I think there are plenty of them on the lots here in Vermont. This area is 4x4 truck country, so the dealers didn"t change inventory as much.

Dick Wright Ford in Franklin Vermont has the truck that you are looking for. They have a red 2009 F150 with the STX package, 4x4, 4.6 V8, automatic, regular cab, shortbox. Gorgeous truck with a $30,000 window sticker.

stan, i have to agree with you on the onstar antenna, even more offensive is the amount of personal info they recieve from that antenna. if they can track miles i drive and the air pressure in the tires then what other info can they obtain? after the one year trial expires i will not renew it. one concern i have is , even without a paid onstar contract, can they still obtain info from that antenna. on a more postive note, the 08 gmc i have has been trouble free so far.
