How to remove paint from tires?

I bought a set of used rear tires for my John Deere 70. I'm getting ready to mount them, and they have some red overspray around the beads. Any ideas on how to get it off of the tires? I'm painting the rims, and I think the red and yellow will clash. Or is there a black tire paint to cover it with? Chris

I have used carb cleaner in a spray can and a stiff bristle brush. Worked for me but mine were not that bad.

Look at Miller Tire. They have a great tire paint. I used it to cover paint and marks on old tires. Easy to use and works great.

I had yellow overspray on the rears on my JD H. Painter didn't mask them well enough. Paint was Imron and had cured byt he time I found it. I tried everything I could think of except for setting the tires on fire, nothing worked. Finally used Scotch-Brite pads with lacquer thinner, and lots and lots of elbow grease. It did work, but a nasty job. Maybe another kind of paint wouldn't be so hard.

Next time you paint, try using Pam or another vegetable spray on the rubber. I have used it with a 6" plastic guard to keep it off of the rim. I also use Murphy's tire soap on the tire to stop this, because like everyone has mentioned, it takes more work to remove the paint, once you get it on the tire.

The antidote for some enamels is Easy-off oven cleaner.About 45minutes and it will soften and wipe off.Thats what signpainters use.

If you have access to a sandblaster, that's the fastest, easiest way to do it. Makes the old rubber look pretty good too.

Small can of aircraft stripper or other MEK stripper or sand blast. Stripper won't hurt rubber , just wash it off after paint wrinkles or loosens up.
