What is it?

Ok guy's and gal's, my uncle recently bought an old farmall. When he told me about his recent find he said it was an M. He had some problems with it and I went over to help him. I think the tractors an H. How do we solve this? The serial # is 21186. Is there a way to figure out the model and year? The serial tag was mostly sanded off do to a recent paint job. Thanks for any help you can give me.

If the frame is 18 inches wide it is an H. If it is 20 inches wide it is an M.
