Rooster or Hen?

so i have some chickens, i know there are at least 2 roosters, maybe as many as 4. what are some key traits to distingiush between a rooster and a hen? im assuming size is one thing. i hear one rooster at about 530 am. i saw another rooster try to pin down one of the hens. what about the tops of the heads? or the tails?

Larger combs on the top of there heads mean a rooster. Its gonna rain here tomarrow so Im thinking of going to Agway and ordering my chicks. I order sexed chicks so I only get hens.

Not many Agways left in NY. One in Ithaca is the only one I know of.

Theres 2 here, one in Altamont NY and one in Cobleskill NY, there were bought out buy independent people thought, so like, one is called Kelly Family Agway or something like that and I forgot the other. j

roosters will have taller comb on the head larger tail feathers. When you said seen one top hen thats just mother nature at work,only problem is they can get really mean and rough on the hens. they will tear all feathers off there backs and head if you let it continue,literally have blood exposed on there backs. Especially if you have more than one rooster in your flock. Egg production will go way down if this is going on also. If you want egg production get the roosters out. Been doing it for years. have 7 roosters to give away if interested. Love hearing them crow around the place but they he$$ on hens and to costly to feed just for the noise. Banty roosters they neat to have around will be hatching more again soon

I always go by the comb and by tail feathers hen will have straight tail feathers roosters will have a curve to them
