O/T rescued starve livestockk-hauling hay needed

I just found out about a large seizure of starved animals - 170 horses, 50+ cows in the n. central Tx area. The Humane society was asking for donations of hay. We have the hay, but no way to haul more than a few bales. Anyone willing to donate time, big truck & trailer & fuel to haul the hay to the rescue site?

P.S. If the starved animals weren"t enough, the Humane Society has had to post armed guards because they have received threats.

Why don't they just sell the animals? They might as well sell them for slaughter, as they won't ever be worth what it will cost to get them back into condition. Oh wait, the stupid gov't banned horse slaughter because of so called "inhumanity".

Kind of akin to what CMan was getting at. Were they siezed by The American Humane Association or The Humane Society of the United States? Makes a huge difference as to whether or not they have some peoples sympathy and cooperation.

Don't want to hijack the thread but I must agree with you. Whomever decided that sticking an electrode down a turkeys throat then sending 600 volts threw it for 15 to 30 seconds was kinder to the turkey than lopping it's head off was not thinking of the turkey but of themselves having to watch the body flop around for a few minutes.

I wouldnt let cattle starve,Id sell'em off first, but it is my opinion that if the humane society is going into the livestock business that they had better be prepared to feed them, just like the poor dude they stole them from.We had a guy in these parts a few years back. Finally judge ordered all his livestock sold and banned him from ever having any in the county again, but mainly because they were scattered all over everybody elses land eating crops.Bottom Line-There is a lot of hay for sale-go get it

Not to wade into a mess, but I didn't know that there were two Humane Societies, and I don't know what the difference between them might be. Perhaps you could enlighten me.

Ironically, if the Inhumane Society of Butt their Noses into Everyones Business is unable to feed them, I wonder if a judge will seize the animals from them and levy a fine against the Society of Peoplehaters? It would be poetic justice. Why didn't everyone else feed the cows when the farmer owned them? It's the same cow. Why should everyone else have to feed the cow, now that some leftist people haters have usurpted ownership? If you want to steal other people's animals, atleast you ought to feed them with your own money.

Sorry about the rant, but I never did appreciate the idea of demanding some animal rights fringe group dictating how livestock is to be treated.

Nancy,

I m way up here in MN, so not much help to ya, but I do admire your willingness to jump in and help out. Hope everything works out.

My hat off to you Ms. Nancy I think she is thinking about the animals and not some sosiety or law. God bless you

exactly right!the stupid people banning horse slaughter has literally ruined the horse buisness.look at how many horses are in shelters now, with no room for any more.just like any animal if you cant get rid of the bad ones in a very short time theres more than anyone can handle.the cattle i cant understand, bet theres more to the story that isnt being told.

The Humane Society of the United States is an animal rights organization that does not believe in people using animals for any purpose. They want to force vegetarianism on everyone.

Nancy: I have read your post and I have also read most of the other posts. There is one real problem that no one has related to. First I am not a tree lover but I do not approve of some one seizing property.
That being there is too many “Wanta be” cowboys & traders out there that do not realize how much feed and care animal take. The animal they are usually in trouble before they get them. They buy the poorest, cheapest feed they can afford which is really trash. They do not check them daily. Basically it gets down to who is going to protect the animal. In our state it is the sheriff. Yes, someone has to complain to him.
I got turned in by some one time. Had a great old show dairy cow. She had been born and was sixteen years old. Had a small lush pasture that she was retired to. It had water and shade and was where we could watch her. We knew she was weak but took grain to her and made sure she had hay and gave her medication, We knew what had to be done but it was our animal and we were giving her care and it was going to be at out time and our place.
One morning I noticed the sheriffs care pulled on the shoulder of the highway and he was walking toward old Tony. I hurried over to her and Sherriff said, “Somebody signed a complaint you were
abusing the cow I can see you are not. I was mad and asked who it was. The answer was “I will take care of them”.
The next day we had a backhoe and a Vet come. The Vet administered IV and she just went to sleep and is buried in that spot.I will say this: If some of you hard***** people want to own animal be prepared to take care of them.

Nancy you are to be commended.

What are they planning to do with them? Reason I ask is last year the humane society here seized a bunch of sheep and cattle and went on the radio asking for hay and grain to be donated for them. Some of the local farmers called asking to take the animals on themselves.... turned out for them to be "adopted" back out again you'd have to sign a legal contract that they never be sent to slaughter or eaten or used for breeding purposes.. just pets. They didn't get much hay for that foolishness.

The Humane Society is on a budget like everyone else and this is a very unusual seizure. I can't recall ever hearing of a seizure of this size.

Cathy told me they have already spent $10,000 on these animals. They are still investigating the case and requested help to feed the animals.

I don't know what the regs are regarding disposal once the animals are healthy.

Nancy , I meant to Commend you for your Caring efforts ,, Hope all goes well and you are pleased with Results . and perhaps you will give us a status report update in the future , forgive me for judging myself too far away to be able to make a difference .. I beg YOUR Pardon . Jim

I'm with you! What seems Ironic is that they stole the farmers livestock(legally perhaps, but stole nonetheless) under the guise that the farmer wasn't feeding the animals, and now this society of butt their noses in is expecting everyone else to feed their freshly stolen herd. I can't shake the idea that the agenda is to prevent these animals from being used as intended, and for that the inhumane society gets no sympathy from me. They stole them and if they are unable to feed these animals, I hope they are dealt with as harshly as the rightfull owner was!

been in the exact same position.we had an old horse that had been on the same farm for 35 years.and she was 3 or 4 when we bought her. so old she had no teeth, could barely see,the only thing she could eat was a mash made out of oatmeal.(which she got four times a day,EVERY day)the only reason we didnt put her down was all the kids and grandkids in family had rode her.no way you could fatten her up .some one saw her standing in shade beside barn and turned us in.sherriff deputy showed up with some city dude, and started acting like we was scum for torturing the poor beast.I calmly picked up my 45 walked up to her and with them watching shot her between the eyes.when the city boy quit puking,he didnt say word..used to you could at least get something for those old worthless animals that never would make a good horse because they were deformed at birth or something but now you have no option but to pay a vet to put them down,..By the way,I WILL NEVER,own another horse!all the others were sold the next weekend.i dont want to feed one for 35 years and then have to shoot it because of someones elses stupidity.could I have let them take her,yes certainly could have, could i have paid a vet to put her down, yep could have done that to,would she have survived the trip to town in a trailer? doubtful you could have forced her into one.she hadn't been in one for 35 years and then only once, when we hauled her home as a young horse. And more importanly that deputy is now the sherriff and near retirement his self..told me once a few years later he never went out on a cruelty call again that he didnt remember that day,and he always found out afterwards the whole story not just looked at apperances. It appeared that I was abusing that horse, even though there was 4 more in same pasture rolling fat.didnt matter to them when I tried to explain about horses and old age.all they saw was a poor skinny horse. And you are absolutly right, most people who move to country have NO clue of taking care of any animal and have no buisness owning one in the first place.
