have 4 hens, and 2 roosters, all together. is it ok to eat the eggs those hens lay even though theres a rooster present? what would the process be if i wanted to hatch those eggs?

They are fine to eat. If you have 'smart' hens (from older breeds) they can hatch their own eggs if they want to or you can get an incubator. You'll need an incubator for leghorns or other 'dumb' breeds. (these terms are relative, given that the smartest chicken is no Einstein). I think it is safe to assume that at least some of yur eggs will be fertile.

When I was a kid we sold eggs to a hatchery. 1 rooster to 20 hens I believe was the ratio. They were buisy. Eggs are good to eat, they will just spoil a little quicker.

yes, done it for years and still am. you want to hatch those egggs simple gather them put in incubator heat consitant 98 degrees temp for 21 days and yiou should have cbabay chicks. Kee th ehumidity at thet right level also. did two batches last year and only had 3 in one hatch and twoi in second that were duds. you really should candle them but never did. Its alot of fun to do especially when you hear them cheap before they out of shell. I have 10 rooster to give away if you or some else is interested

Yes the fertile eggs are fine to eat, if you have a really good broody hen who will sit on the eggs for 21 days you can hatch your own chicks. j

If you take the roosters away, the chickens are still fertile. After breeding, the sperm are stored inside the chicken, and she has fertile eggs even if you get rid of the rooster.

So, answer me this one:

If it takes a chicken and a half a day and a half to lay an egg and a half, how long would it take 3 chickens to lay 3 eggs ?????????????????

Supposedly fertilized eggs are better for you, but I have no idea why. I don't much care for eggs myself, even though my wife has twenty chickens.

Indefinite as far as I understand. I think they fertilize a large number of the eggs, which are all in the hens body. They start tiny(like other animals), and as they pass through the reproductive tract they get larger and end up looking like what we think of as an "egg". Yolk, white, and shell. Eventually the chicken could run out of fertilized eggs, but I think she'd be in the soup pot by then.
