I am itching for spring now, I have had it, I dident mind all the work a few weeks ago but now I cant wait to see the cows out side, pitching silage, dusting louse powder on the cows, getting kicked, throwing hay down, not to mention mixing feed, minor problems with the Badger gutter cleaner, shoulda got a Patz.... I'll be glad when there outside eating grass. No more broken water bowls and so on. They will go out in May after the pasture gets some growth on it. The Jersey bull may go out back in the pen, seems to have a hard time getting up when hes laying down, Im glad I only have 34 of the 50 ties stalls filled lol,,,, Anyone else feel this way Bring on spring.!

Feel like an a$$ saying anything to you folks about it being cold here but it's been warming a little the last week and today I saw honey bees and a bumble bee. Easter Lillies are a couple inches out of the ground and trees are starting to look like budding. Horses are shedding also. Guess it's spring.

Winter seems especially burdensome in upstate New York- tie stalls, waterers that they can destroy, bedding, gutter cleaners, etc. I noticed how much less money for dairy farms in upstate NY back when I wanted to dairy (35 years ago), but my mentors said "There's a reason why NY is so much less money- Trust me, you just want to "walk on by".

Much easier here- water troughs that don't freeze, freestalls, etc. Spring is basically open the gates so they can eat pasture, then get the winter area cleaned up before you have to put them back into it.

Never did find a dairy to buy, a circumstance for which I am eternally grateful.

Oh, come on now Dave, Honey bees? Were are you located? Here in NY a bee sting would feel good right about now...j

We have been seeing honey bees for weeks.
It will not be long and we will be wishing for your cooler weather.
Hang in there spring is on the way.

(quoted from post at 19:02:47 03/05/09) I want one more blast of snow, heavy 12 inches of it on a Friday night......So I can play with my New Deere.

Get you a load of dirt or sand. You can play all summer.

The guy at the tractor pulls this past summer said "Nothing runs like a Deere,,,,,Except a bad a$$ International" Hope you have fun with your new Deere thought, put it to work for you!

Local radio station here in S. Central IL said the month of Feb. was 1.5 deg above normal. They must not have went outside to measure. I like cool weather but I'm ready for spring. It's been to long of a winter and I doubt it's over yet.

Down here in Missouri.. say central anyway. Reached today. 72 with some wind. Was really nice day and same said for tomorrow. Least melted that 4 1/2 inches of snow that fell Saturday. All melted now.

Finished stacking the last of the winters firewood today.
Got up to 59F and I couldn't resist. Got out my 1956 M38a1 military Jeep and went for a 12 mile ride. First one this year, really felt good!!

Yesterday was above the freezing mark, the first time since approximately early November. We've had close to 60 days with temperatures below -20C (-1F). There is less than a face cord of wood left in the shed.
Needless to say, spring conditions would be a most welcome change...

Here in N. central and N. east Tx fruit trees are blooming and other trees are blooming and leafing out.

Last year we sprayed the hayfield in mid-Feb with Round up to kill the cool season weeds. This winter has been so warm, in mid-Feb we had coastal shoots 2 to 3 in. tall and had to spray with 2,4-D instead of RU.

It was 87 in Dallas yesterday and supposed to be about the same today.

Also very dry here. Good chance for rain 3 to 4 days next week. We're hoping it rains all week.
