looking for a m&w turbo setup to install on a 6000 ford. does anyone have any tips once i hopefully procure one?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the 6000 running at it's limits in stock form? Seems like I have heard the transmissions in them weren't up to the power put through them.

i want to put it on for fun. think it would be a neat project. the tractor doesnt get used for anything exept feeding round bales and running a square baler in flat country so i wouldnt be hurting it any. at least i dont think so?

Is that the 6000 Ford Commander with the selectospeed transmission and 6 cyl. engine? If so, the engine is basically a gas truck engine which was converted to diesel. I don't think it has the 7 main bearings and I think it is not really strong enough for a diesel, much less a turbo. If I am confusing tractors, please excuse.

it is a 63 6000 not a commander. it has a 242 cu. inch 6cyl diesel engine. i was told by a neighbor that is now retired that when he was younger he his father and uncle all owned those tractors and had tubos on two of them. he did say you had to adjust the tranny by the book but that they plowed and disced with them and that they got an average of 8000 hrs on those tractors before they traded them off for newer ones. seeing as i dont use mine for much of anything i think it will hold up fine.

61-64 6000 and 223 Ford truck engine shared many internal engine parts. Diesel tractor used same parts as gas except for pistons. That is what my engine parts book says anyway.

Matt79, or any of you Ford experts,

I have a friend who is looking for the plastic cover or insert that fits on the steering wheel of his restored 6000. If he finds that, his tractor is complete.

Anyone know who might be of help here?

Thanks for replying to me,
