I have an Farmall Power Unit Built back in the mid '40s. It is supposed to run but the wiring is a little goofy. It has a generator,(the black box beside the gen.about 3"x3"x2")a distributor and coil, and the resistor beside the dist. also the ammeter. it also has maybe what would be called a starter celenoid ?? on the starter it self. ANY wiring help will be appreciated or a web to get help.!

Here is Bob Melville's Diagrams. It will be a choice of components. If the box on your gen is a cutout, it should be wired as such. If it is a regulator, it needs that wiring. The solenoid is covered on 3oo and up tractors with solenoids. Good luck. JimN

Punch below for a diagram that will work for wiring the charging system (simply omit the light switch for your engine...).

The presence of a resistor ahead of the coil suggests your engine has been converted to 12 volts. Check the voltage regulator (the black box by the generator) - if it's marked "12 volt" you'll know for sure.

A starter solenoid replaces a manual starter switch. It's a can-shaped affair with 2 heavy terminals and one (or sometimes two) smaller terminals. The solenoid goes in the heavy cable between the battery and the starter; the smaller terminal is wired to the pushbutton start switch
