how do I remove the crankshaft pulley from a 1949 allis chalmers wd 45 gas engine.my 17 year old helper has one he restored himself, now he want to add a ft. end loader off of a wd. so I need to build a mount for live hyd. pump. thanks. Jeff in west pa.

It is held on with the same setup as the starter- pointy bolt with a locknut on it. Likely need to remove the radiator to get some room to work in- use a puller after getting that bolt out. What is your plan- weld a stub shaft to the pulley, machine it true, and use a coupler to the pump?

thank for reply. tractor has wide ft end, steering box in the way. will have to add two more drive pully to crank and mount pump to belly pan.heck of a job, but the kid is a great worker and clean cut. helps me in water well and oilwell work will do anything I ask. mother and dad are split up. used to drive his 4 wheeler to my place, I could hear him comeing, putt. putt. putt. when he came in the drive he would drive around the potholes.

had a.c. dealer look for mount they still work on wd buy and sell them, sell parts buy parts on computing thing, they found one mount in usa. guy wanted lots of money for it.

I made a WD into a reversed loader 30 years ago. First pump was about seven inches square, low pressure. Used a Lovejoy cast/rubber coupler between it and the pulley with machined stub in it. Very tight fit. Second pump was a little high pressure Cessna, like used on D17 power steering, F combine, etc. Gained some room by adding 6-8 inches to C-channel of tractor frame, moving steering box forward. Rear bolts of steering box are now in original front holes of frame. Used a double chain coupler on that setup, and it stands up fine. I don"t understand why you want to add two grooves to the front pulley, unless you plan on dropping down two belts to run an underslung mounted pump. Another option I"m working on for my son"s WD is to use a D17 front pulley, if it"s the same size as the crankshaft. That pulley is machined for a front pump, and you can run a shaft through the steering box and mount the pump on the front of the box.

yea planed on useing v belts, have to look it over real good again, but I don't see any way to run a shaft through the steering box. this is a wide ft end. how did A.C. do it? thanks

I"d take out the shaft that the crank fits on, and replace it with a shaft coupled to the original pulley. Is there a D17 in the area you could look at? Kind of tough to see, but the pulley has a machined front, with 4 holes drilled and tapped. A flat plate bolts to that, and the plate has a shaft on it that runs forward through the steering box, and the front of the box is machined and tapped to bolt a pump on to. I"d do the same with the WD. I don"t know if the WD crankshaft is the same diameter as the D17- if it was, the D17 pulley should fit.
