Names of Farm movies..again.

What was the black and white one where they did a whole bunch of custom combining out in the dakotas(?) It was probably 15 years ago when I say it, so I dont remember a thing about it.

Dave, "Amber Waves" Cera 1970+ - , with Dennis Weaver. About a Custom Combining crew.
Later,
John A.

The Grapes of Wrath.......poor farming folks on the move during the Dust Bowl (as I recall).

Of Mice and Men...itinerant farm workers..one was a retard...Lenny.

These two are classics. Now, if you are just referring to flicks with hayseeds driving tractors and drinking beer....I don't know.

There is "Country" that was filmed near Dunkerton Ia just a little north east of my home town of Waterloo.
"The River" with Mel Gibson and Sissy Spacek.

I'm just trying to recall a movie that I saw in the 70s I think it had Ron Howard in it. A young family struggling to make it..What I remember is the kids lose their hair..The boy hops on a old JD and drives it down a hill and rolls it..I know this is very vague...I was hoping to jog someones memmory....

I just posted about the movie with Ron Howard in 1981 - Bitter Harvest. Netflix doesn't have it. That was the first place I tried. You can get it for 30 bucks on amazon in VHS (ouch)

Man in the Moon - mostly a coming-of-age chick flick, but it has a lot of scenes showing the boy-in-love driving a Farmall M with a disk.

Miles from home . Parts filmed in Cedar Rapids and surrounding areas . Two brothers forced off family farm by bank . Some good combine footage .

Bridges of Madison County..(chick flick)..I read a portion of it to my wife yesterday on our anniversary...the part where they pull up be hind the photographer at the intersection...guaranteed to spark some romance in your day.......Clint Eastwood and Meryl Streep..

"The young pioneers"

Made in the late 70's,but takes place in the early settler days.Geat movie!

Hey Brian: Waterloo is my home town. Old farm was what is now Cedar Terrace addition. Graduated from old Orange High School south of town. My e-mail is open

When I was a small child in the 40's, I saw some movies with my parents. One scene I remember in one of the movies is a pair of mules pulling out a stuck tractor, which was a Moline?? Anyway, I remember it was yellow. Anyone know about this? I would like to see it again.

Cider House Rules with Toby McGuire, About migrant apple pickers. Nice shots of 30s era John Deere tractors.

Yea that was Bitter Harvest, the tractor was an AN and it was Ron Howards uncle that had the accident. The true story was it was Rick Halberts uncle and he was driving a 4520 and was killed in the accident. I wrote my thesis at MSU on this whole sad story.

"Our Daily Bread". had a 10/20 Mccormick Deering. From the 30's. The tramp girl was the same woman that played Arnold Ziffels mom on "Green Acres". Can't recall her name.

How about Twister lots of tractors in that movie some flying some hanging from trees.Any one know where that was filmed?
Ron

Some of Twister was filmed about 20 miles north of me near Rippey, Iowa. Something to do with the quality of a certain county road (I know, I thought the same thing).

Forrest Gump was filmed south of Charleston. Remember that 3 second scene where that dozier smashed that house I know that Guy and they paid him for a months work. I also have sat in the Jenny tree.
Ron

How is this a "farm" movie?? Oh I get it, Clint Eastwood's character is plowing some Iowa farmer's wife while the family is showing steers at the fair.

The Straight Story. About an old man riding from Iowa to Wisconsin on a 1960's JD mower. Also had 9000 series combine and 4020 among other equipment. Richard Farnsworth was one heck of an actor. Wish they would run that again.

Dave, you have to see "The Good Earth". Starring Paul Muni (B & W). Farming picture set in China. David...............
