Doing My Part stimulating the economy

I'm doing my part stimulating the economy. Just got my Super MD head back from the machine shop. It had a crack down the one injector port, so they sent it out and had it welded up. While it was there they put in new valve seats and guides. It sure is pretty. Just waiting on the crank and I'll be able to begin reassembly. Anyone else woking on some fun projects.

Not right now. My son put guides, exhaust valves and all new springs in the head of my 1600 Oliver about a month ago. Got it back together. Have to pull a rear hub off the back and fix that yet before I clean it up and paint it,but it's still too cold and damp to paint anyway.

Not working on anything at the moment. Just waiting on a few items to sell. If I could asked what may be a dumb question. Why are there 3 valves per cylinder??????? I"m not at all familiar with the MD engine. Thanks, Todd.

The third valve opens a chamber to lower the compression to start the engine on gas. When you switch it to run on diesel, that valve closes and raises the compression.

I always thought the small valves were hooked up to the small intake manifold and carb and only one set of intake valves, the gas or the diesel was operational at one time. I did not believe they had a decompression feature built into them on the MD.

BC PA I think you are right. Has seperate intake for the gas air mixture. Goes in thru the small valve. If i am wrong on this been told that all my life.

Look above the intake& exhaust ports; the angled opening(red) is the injector opening.
Small valve indeed lowers compression, connects to the carburetor, and when opened, switches on the ignition system.

Very nice. I have just started a '49 Chevrolet pickup restoration. Hopefully that will count as my part for stimulating the economy!

The gasoline/air mixture enters the cylinders through the normal intake valves. The small valve opens to a chamber that contains the spark plug. When running on gasoline the small valve is open allowing the fuel mixture to be exposed to the spark plug and lowering the compression ratio.

I'm almost exactly where you are at the moment. Although I'm still waiting for my Super MD head to come back and also for the valves and springs to come in at CaseIH. I'm also hoping I can run the bottom end for a bit longer. It will be nice to see it running though. Sam

Well, just got a phone call from the CaseIH dealer, my parts are in. 8 valve springs, 4 intake valves, 4 exhaust valves, and 4 starting valves. Grand total is somewhere just south of $1000 CDN. After the machinist who's working on my head crack tested it he phoned me up to say that he'd found 9 cracks. On the other hand he says he can fix them and will warranty it to boot. Sam

I'm putting power steering on my David Brown 880e. Lots of modification to brackets, steering and what not. Yesterday I pulled the radiator to get the front pulley off. I spent the evening cleaning 45 years of gunk from the cast iron pan in front of the engine...what a mess.

I'm waiting on my 7610 (Ford) engine to get back from the machine shop. Its not a fun project, in fact, I was sick when compression started spewing out of the dipstick. Bored, sleeved, crank turned 10 on the mains and 20 on the rods, new pistons and it should be good as new. Hope to get it back end of next week. Hope so anyhow, the plows were on the tractor when I pulled the head and I need to plow a half acre more of so to plant some gamma grass.

working on an m for a customer, then i got my super m to put together, all new motor parts, clutch ect, then body work, paint, live hydraulics, mabe wide front end, maybe new tires too. that 'll kick the ole 'conomy.
