Waiting for a date for shoulder surgery. Don't dread the procedure as much as limited use of the limb and maybe 6 mos getting back to normal. Whatever...rather this than more years of living with three torn tendons out of four in the joint.

Just before they put you under, mark with permanent ink marker "YES, this shoulder" and "NO,NO, the other one!!" on the appropriate shoulders, just in case...

I had shoulder surgery 10 months ago. Used a chainsaw yesterday, and pulled brush all day. No problems. Just a few things for after the big day ---Be sure you have a recliner chair. No way you can sleep in your bed and be able to sleep for a few days. Take the pills they give you for the pain. Do everything that the physical therapist says do even when it is painful. After six months you will be good as new. Good luck and a steady recovery.

6 months may be a little optimistic, my Doc. told me it would take 2 years for mine to heal and 10 months after the operation I think he is right!

My 84 year old dad just had his left one completely replaced yesterday. He had the right replaced 5 years ago. Came thru ok.

My Dad just had his right shoulder replaced 2 weeks ago... the left was done in mid Dec. Just take your time and don't overdo it while you're healing.

In the same boat here, Tore the top of my rotator cuff back in june. Back to normall strenghth wise, but still want to have it fixed just to be safe.

Had my left hip replaced 4 weeks ago today, Feeling really good. A bit of ache from the surgery itself but the new hip sure cleared up the old hips problems! Good Luck!!Hope you have as much success as I have had!Do your PT exercises just as instructed. I slacked off a day or two and could really feel it!

Bummer, I dislocated my right shoulder three times, the last one was a partial torn rotator cuff. The only therapy that worked was weight lifting – of course that was two or three years after the incident. Gotta love those cortisone shots.

Your injury is much worse though.

Bendee, Can"t speak as to the cause of the others, but mine was because of bone spurs. The spurs rubbed on the tendons in my shoulder and wore them thin. A little extra physical activity and they all snapped like a rubber band. Waited about a month while using various rubs, heat, cold, all no help. Finally gave up and went to the doctor and then to the surgeon. My shoulder was torn up pretty bad. Surgeon had a heck of a time pulling the tendons back up to reattach to my shoulder. Had to put eight screw anchorages into the bone. It wasn"t anything that could have been prevented, just age and wear and tear on the old body. Talking to the local surgeon, said he does about six to eight of these a week. So, it must be pretty common. After six months of intense physical therapy, I can do anything that I want with my shoulder. Used a chainsaw day before yesterday and pulled brush all day long. No problems
