I have a New Idea side delvery, or rollbar hay rake, with the rubber teeth. I cant keep teeth on the thing, wanted to switch to metal teeth but Id have to buy these clips which are about $1.10 apice. That would alow me to buy steel teeth to convert it over. Im looking to get a new -used rake this spring, maybe a New Holland 256 or something. I had a New Idea years ago with the steel teeth and dont ever remember replacing them every season.
What do you guys like about ethier kinds of teeth. Also how good do rotary rakes work, and is the such a thing as a rake/tedder? I thought my neighbor had a tedder that he moved a lever on and it would rake into windrows. I would like that so I can have one piece of equipment in stead of two. Thanks J

Hey, don't know anything about the rubber teeth but I have a new holland 256 side delivery works good with metal teeth and small acreage. Upgraded to a Walton 8 wheel V-rake that works great, the faster you go the better it works. I had a new holland pretty sure it was a 254? that would both tedder and rake it worked fair I guess just wasn't wide enough. Hope this helps

I have a kuhn rotary rake. It does a nice clean job and shortens drying time a little because it does not rope the hay like a roller bar rake.

New Holland made a rake/tedder combination (254) that does a good job. I have used one for the last 10 years and it has never given any trouble. It has not been off my rakeing tractor in all those years. It takes about one minute to turn it from a tedder to a rake and you are ready to go. I have two of them in case my old one breaks down but it has actually never broken other than a few broken teeth, and the spare just sits in the shed ready to go. I picked up my last one (in very good shape) for $800.00 at a farm auction.

Are these 254 NH rake tedders 2 row tedders and 2 row rakes, or single row. Right now I have a 2 row Duetz Farh 2.52 tedder, then the rake. But a 2 row rake/tedder would be nice, never have to hook and unhook 2 implements, or maintiane two! Thanks Jay

We had a NI rake and never replaced any steel teeth in over 20 years raking both hay and straw. I've got a JD with all new expensive Mother Deere rubber teeth (the old ones were breaking too often) and suspect I'll be back in the replacement mode in a couple of years. I should have converted to steel.

No. It will only rake one windrow at a time but it is 14 ft wide. My mower is 7 ft wide and the rake will pick up 2 rows both raking and teddering. The only bad thing about it is it is hard to double the windrows since it drags the hay to the middle. But if you have good thick hay, 14 ft will make a fairly large windrow. In thin hay you have a disadvantage with it because you have to bale small windrows.

I have a 56 rolabar NH that my dad is refurbishing in the shop. Gives him something to do over the winter. We will be selling when its done. Has the non-rubber teeth. shoot me an e-mail if you like.

Just an idea here, look at shoup's. They have rubber teeth for my JD rake that are MADE IN USA. First year I had the JD I did not loose any teeth. When I did I bought some at Rural King, the next year I replace all the new ones again. Been buy'n the made in usa ones for a few years and have not had any trouble with them. Just an idea, they are a little more and I don't know why but they last alot longer.
