What would make the rotor jump?

Okay finally found my problem. The rotor had jumped inside of the distributor. What could have happened to make this happen. Its running fine now. Just wonder if there something else that I should take a look at.

the old fords used to kinda do this if the metal clip was missing on the distributer shaft. Is is a ford?
 
Had this happen to me on an IHC H4 magneto that had been converted to battery ignition. Took a while to find it. Problem was caused by a damaged rotor. Replaced it and no more problem. Maybe not installed correctly in the first place??
