comverting to 12volt

If its a 1 wire alternator, Just run 1 wire from the alt back to the main hot terminal on the Amp guage, trace out existing wire harness, and just use the one that's already connected.

go to left and scroll down to Ford 8n/ 9n open up and then scroll down to 12 volt conversion.

One wire alternator do not work well on slow speed engines like tractors. It is best to use the three wire alternator and wire the way done by diagrams on the net. I use an old Chilton's Manuel I have that cover the years the GM 10si were used. The only thing different I do is use a diode in place of the resistor in the diagram.

One tip if you do use a "1 wire" alternator.
Get a small one, 37 amp is the little one, and is far more than an early Ford tractor will ever need and will start charging at much lower rpm than a 61 or 72 amp.
Also far less chance of burning up the stock "bat" wire in the original harness with a lower amp output alternator. It is worth getting the very small alternator pulley made for early Ford alternator conversions to get the alternator charging at lower rpm.
