How would you like to shoot this gun?

They all displayed very poor shooting positions for one thing. For another, my "shooting position" would be at the bar watching. (;>))

A gun that big can do some serious damage to your wrist. A lot of people don't take that into account. There was a young girl on the US Olympic shooting team who damaged her shooting wrist so badly that I don't think she ever made a comeback.

I thought you might show off a little and shoot it with the buttstock up against the end of your nose?

I have seen that same ballistics lab in another video with an Indian guy firing a powerful gun, (maybe the same here) and this Indian guy fires the gun and yells "Oh My God, Yikes" and the gun flys all the way back against that polycarbonate wall. Very Funny.

I take gun safety very seriously and all those guys firing that gun should have had the gun on a tripod or Bipod, and had a better stance. I would hate to break my shoulder firing that.

Brings back memories of how i got my 300 Weatherby Magnum. My brother in law owned it and he is just a little guy, well every time he shot it his hat and glasses flew off, he got so flinchy with it that he hated it, so I got me an elk gun real cheap, only thing bad about it , it's quite heavy. Another guy I know, total redneck, has a 50 caliber browning that shoots the same bullets as the military 50 cal machine gun. WOW that thing barks!!!!

What do you do with it - besides dare your stupid friends to shoot it? To be "useable" it needs to weigh more to reduce the recoil to a manageable level. Thats why you don't see 8 pound rifles shooting .50 BMG.

It is an eye opener!! But how useless, can't defend yourself with it --- with a crazy recoil like that. I'd sooner have a Kentuck long rifle and pick them off at 500 yards. I like the sound of a muzzle loader & black power. You hit a rag head with one of those and the only thing left is the rag!

I agree the gun is almost useless. The .50BMG puts out the same, or probably even a little more energy as this gun, and with the kick of a twelve guage because of a muzzle break and extra weight.

I wonder where the bullet ends up with crazy recoil like that? Probably about anywhere but where you wanted it to go.

I don't see how. I've got a Cartridges of The World book that claimed the wooden forearm was ripped clean off the test rifle when it was fired.

Are you talking about one of those Safari slings that goes around your body?

Way more recoil then i want . If what i have now will not stop what i am shooting at then we had best call in a air strike . My one uncle had a weatherby in 458 mag and that as far as i am concerned had enough recoil to rattle your fillings out .

Old .577/.600 Nitro elephant guns for serious ivory work developed from black powder cartridges. The guns were often double barreled and weighed 16 to 20+ lbs- that is why gunbearers were used on hunts. The video shows a Mauser based short plain barrel weighing maybe 10-12 lbs? Rifleman last month had a short article on Zastavia made .50BMG based on Mauser, long barrel with 4 port muzzle brake and weighing at 35 lbs, had bipod and energy absorbing butt pad. Old WW2 Russian anti tank rifles - 2 most used Siminov was gas operated self loader that had some energy absorbing, Degtarev (sic?) was partial bolt and recoil unloading single shot- again some energy absorbing features. Feature gun could use muzzle brake and recoil absorbing butt pad or recoiling stock to be practical with lower pressure cartridge like old .577/.600 Nitro loaded with brown shutzpowder load-nitrated wood pulp- instead of guncotton and nitroglycerin Cordite. No, I am speaking of a common sling you use to carry a rifle over your shoulder. You get set in it correctly and you could controll that rifle.

notice that there are 2 rifles ...the guy in the blue shirt is shooting a #1 Ruger...the others a bolt gun...Kent

The video proves the old classic fact. "You just need to know what you are doing".
The last guy that fires that cannon almost makes it look easy.
