I installed a foam marker on my spray rig and it has a electric plug where you conect the wires to the tractor and plug the foam marker in but I want to use it on other tractors, I thought about putting alligator clips on it and connecting it straight to battery. The book says to connect to a hot wire on the key switch but if I go straight to battery will that be alright,although one tractor has two 12 volt batteries? Should I put some kind of breaker in line? Thanks

I'd avoid hooking it up direct. At least cut the hot wire and put a fuse holder in it. I'd go a little tuffer than aligator clips also, but thats just me.
Maybe a cigarette lighter on the tractors and a male plug for the sprayer??

Is the system 24V with the 12's in series? Or a 12V electrical system with the 12's in parallel?
You won't like the results if the tractor is 24V.

The foam marker on my sprayer is hooked up with a 2 wire trailer light connector, that would be a simple solution for "plug and play" on different power units. I second the fuse idea and will go one better, my foam marker uses a breaker type fuse so I don't have to replace fuses if there is a problem.

If your tractor with two batteries is a '60s vintage John Deere with a 24 volt system, running a load off one battery will eventually give you a dead battery. In this case, the 'gator clips are ideal, because you can alternate batteries every other time you use it to keep their charges in balance.

As far as connectors, go to the heavy duty 7 prong like used on newer tractors or tractor-trailer trucks. Those foam markers draw lot more juice than you might think and will let the smoke out of a light duty connector. Don't ask how I know this!
