I am a Hoosier, and yesterday I was driving thru your fine farm country in the north west part of the state on HWY 60, and noticed that several barns in the area had what appeared to look like a "quilt" pattern on the sides or in some cases the front. Can anyone tell me what that is or is about?
Thanks guys, BEAUTIFUL country by the way!

enter the following into your search engine, lots of hits. Seems to abe a county by county thing.

Just a way of adding a little decoration. Fairly new trend just over the last 10 years or so... At least for this surge in popularity.

Must be recent. It was just about 10 eyars ago that we took 60 or 62,I forget which, all the way across from Lexington to Paduccah. Didn't notice it.

Just more BS the womenfolk think look "purty" hanging on the barn. By and by, they"ll fade out or fall off......the sooner, the better..hehe!

I have a neighbor woman that has a shop, making them. No, I never stopped to ask what she charges. Totally uninterested.

As for the Chew Mail Pouch tobacco ads.....they are fast disappearing. Some folks have taken it on themselves to restore a few.

I always figured the quilt pattern idea was brought down this way from the Amish country but then again those bright colors might offend the Amisher"s zeal for black and white.

There are a few left. The ones that are still here people keep up themselves. Mail Pouch don't do it any more. There are also a few Rock City barns left but seems tornados love them more than they love trailer parks.
