I have a john deere 70 gas, narrow front, very low s/n. the tractor is in good shape. i n the spring I am going to get it running and sell or trade it for a smaller thactor with a three point hitch. any info on what the tractor is worht would be very hulpful. thanks.

Uses 4 gal. of gas per hour plowing. Good no neck trt. If in good shape don't get in a hurry to unload. It is like everything I have sold it's worth in the end is cash in hand. 2500 is low end with factory 3 point. If it running on one cyl and not correctable you have a craked head, which is common to this one. Power steering is a plus. Serial numbers under first 10 built are the good ones for most.

i bought one identicle to yours last spring for $2000 drove it on/off trailer had no major problems i used it making hay all summer im in northeast pa but bought it out of southern ny

You say in "good shape" and then say "get it running"? Some more details about condition.
How "low" is serial number?
3-point hitch?
Upper arm for 3-point?
Power steering?
Tire condition?
Photo?
Could be from scap iron up to many thousands based on your description.

I have a 54 70 that is in top shape. It's a great worker, love to plow with it, a little clumsy but so what. We've got a 45 loader on it that's handier than a pocket on a shirt. (Still not my favorite JD though; my 49 A gets the "favorite" award.)

Around here, a "good" 70 is worth $3000-$3500. That means running and right up there in top mechnical condition. Any less condition than that and the value goes down.

I hesitate to say what yours is worth based on the info. you given. If it's in decent shape and runs good, I'd probably hang on to it and get another smaller tractor, if $$$$ possible.

One more bit of $.02 from me.

Ten years ago, 70's were cheap and there was little interest in them. Since then, their value has increased somewhat as the collectors have discoivered them--and--the folks who needed them for real work found out that they could get a "whonker" of a tractor for a low price. But--prices on 70's are coming up.

Odd how everybody opens up the wallet to spend big bucks on a G.
However they turn their backs on the 70 which is much improved. With duplex carburation, live hydraulics, more power, better fuel efficiency, optional PS and optional live pto.

I say good shape, the metal is in very good and stright, it is a very strong runner, the front tires are very good, the rear tires need to be replaced. the tractor does not have a three point hitch. I say get it out, it sets in the barn,we rented the farm out and I drive truck, so I get it out once a year and start it and drive up and down the lane around the barn then back in for another year. The s/n is in the seven hundreds I think it around (794). I saw a s/n book I think the tractor was built in 52 and sold in 53. I do not have any pics but can get some if you want to see it. Hope this helps, mark
