My 13 year old son wants to know if yall would like to see the pictures of his first car that he is gonna finish restoring ? I made a topic on this a wile back (nov.4.2008) and some folks on here asked to see some of his pics. and he asked me to see if its OK still ? He is real proud of it ! Thanks , Larry

I'd like to see it. I started working on a 1947 Fraizer when I was 14. But with my limited knowledge and no coaching all I got was an education.

I would like to see them. There is no better way to learn a whole bunch of skills than to restore something.

Now that is a safe car as far as real steel around him.Tell him to enjoy the project and when he is able to drive it with respect it.

That's a really cool car! Are you going to restore it stock or customize it?
If you are making a driver out of it I would like to suggest that you consider upgrading the brakes. Even if you keep the stock drum brakes you should install a newer style dual master cylinder and run all new lines. With the stock brakes if you have a problem with one line all of your brakes are gone. Remember , it's your car so build it your way, have some fun, and always keep the shiny side pointed up. ;>) HTH Jf

I am trying to go back all original. As you see its a 6cilinder.3 on the tree,i got the car through a trade. My dad had a desent 1974 2 door roadster mersades and he desited that the car was gonna be to fast for me for my fist car so he traded the 74 for the car i have now.

if you have any questin please ask . thanks for the coments justin

My first car was a 1956 Ford which is a lot like that 58.Those are good old cars.Mine didnt have very good brakes and I rebuilt them. That was the second thing I ever worked on,brakes on that car when I was 13.That was a long time ago.About 1969.Then overhauled the carburetor,a one barrel Holley. Those Fords like that were all over the place at one time.I think they had a 352 V8 and 3 speed on the column or maybe automatic,or a inline 6 like you have, maybe a 292 Yblock V8.

Wow, that is one lucky son you have. That is one fine looking 58 and it appears to be an easy start to finish restoration. No doubt before too long he will be getting plenty of attention on the road as well as at the local drive in or car show.
I did something quite similar with my son, but he was 14 when we started. I purchased an abused 65 Falcon and together we put it back together and on the road by the time he got his drivers license. He drove that car through high school and beyond. We moved away some 500 miles and prior to departure I picked up a 68 model Falcon for a backup, parts source to keep his 65 on the road since I would no longer be close enough to help. I honestly figured someday he would sell or trade both cars but much to my excitement when he was in his early 20's he purchased a newer and more reliable Ford pickup but he kept the Falcons. Not much after that he moved and no longer had a place to store the extra vehicles so he called and asked if I wanted them both back. As you can imagine I said yes and we made a weekend trip to bring them both home again. We still have them both and now his little brother is next in line.
The first picture is of the 65 on the trailer, we had spent the night in a campground before getting up early the next morning for the 500 mile trip home. The second picture is after arrival home, you can see the rather inventive way I got them both home in one trip. The third picture is of his little brother in the drivers seat waiting for his turn.
