Assesing clutch condition

Hey guys,

Wanted to get some opinions on clutch condition. Rebuilding my 175, was pleasantly surprised with the condition of the clutch. Nothing appeared to be blued from heat clutch plate was thick, non glazed. Here's my question, the contact surface on the flywheel side was smooth, not even a lip where the clutch plate doesnt contact. But, there appears to be some very, very fine cracks on the surface if you will. Is this something to be concerned about or should I have it re surfaced? Since the clutch plates themself look so good, should I replace since I have it apart or go with the one I have? As always thanks for the help.

I wouldn't worry about the heat cracking in the flywheel. It's not likely very deep. If the PP looks good (similar) and the disc still has a good depth over the rivets I'd put it all back together unless you want to drop the better part of a grand on a reman unit.
I never worry about flywheels until the disc is worn out.... or at least I haven't seen one that bad yet until the disc is worn out.

I agree with Rod.
If it is a pulling tractor with RPM above 4000 (could happen) I woulod not use it. If at factory high idle, no issue. JimN

My 165 Massey Ferguson also had those cracks plus some wear and discoloration on the flywheel when I put in a new clutch. I went over the flywheel with a sander and scuffed it up some. It worked out ok for me.
