4020 Value?

Not to beat a dead horse, as I know there has been some discussion about these tractors, but there has been 2 4020's that have been $25,000 and $32,000 in price in the ads. Are these tractors really worth this price? I mean are people actually paying these prices? I have a 1970 side console in excellent shape, and I paid $8500 for it in 2000. I think it is an excellent tractor, by far the one I use most in the summer. However, if it is worth these kind of prices, it is going up for sale, and real quick! Mine is syncro shift and no canopy, but I'd still think it is worth a pretty penny more than I paid for it at these prices.

Havent you figured out that you can ask anything for a price when selling but getting it is another thing. There are lots of tractors priced way over common prices. The two 1206s that sold in the 30s is not what common ones will bring.

'Gotta remember that is their "asking" price. I haven't seen these tractors, but if they have been "shined" with ALL components like new...and I had the money I wanted to spend for a "shiny" tractor....I'd probably pay it. Otherwise, $8-$10 grand for a 4020 would be my top if I only wanted a working tractor.

The one that sold on an auction (Ohio I think??) for high $20,000's was a one owner, around 1500 hours, and the guy was known to take meticulous care of his equipment. Known lifetime of good maintenance on a low hour tractor is what drove the price.

Very regional...here in NE colorado, I see 4020's with loaders sell for around $5000 occasionally, only hear of one going close to $10,000 if it's really nice. I've seen 4010's with good rubber, running good, decent looking for just over $2000... Saw a 4320 sell for about $5500...

Might there be something unique about those, like first or last SN or being a gas industrial (2 made) or high crop (3 LP and 282 diesel made) or diesel industrial with 94 made? For that matter there were less than 900 gas and 900 LP of the side console tractors made which makes them at least uncommon if not rare. The price reflects a collected value, not a working value.

All it takes are a seller and a buyer who think the price is right. The rest of our opinions don't matter.

about the first of dec a 4020 gas powershift sold near me for a little over $4000 second owner less than 5000 hours

I think a few things come into play here.
First the price of a new tractor makes 20K for a nice late model 4020 not look so bad. Alot of 4020's are still earning their keep on farms.
Second is these tractors are being bought up by collectors. These are the tractors the newest generation of tractor collectors grew up with.
Third these two tractors in particular arent your run of the mill 4020's. Both very late, power shift with roll bars and in what would appear to be very good condition. So you can still buy a nice 4020 for under 10K but I dont think you can buy a 71 or 72 power shift 4020 like one of those for 10K. Just my thoughts.
