I live in rural Minnesota and I am stuck with a very slow dial-up connection.

Dish Network is trying to sell me a subscription to a company called SkywayUSA.

Has anyone out there had any experiance with this provider.

Thanks ahead of time for your comments

Gary

I never heard of SkywayUSA, but last fall I went with a package deal with T.D.S. Telecom, who now owns Dish Network. Now I get one bill, which is my Dish, phone, and DSL. I also had VERY slow dial-up, and when I went with this D.S.L., WOW! The speed is awsome! Besides now I don't miss any phone calls while I'm on-line. Ron

Quest is my telephone provider and has not installed Hi Speed or DSL out to our area, not enough potential customers to pay for the equipment

My only options are Wild Blue some Co with a Satalite service. Plus these are very costly for equipment and monthly srevice.

I was looking for somthing less costly.

Hi Gary.
I actually install the Qwest DSL in Pine city area.
Most of the area east of cross lake has it.
Shoot me a email with your phone number and your address.
There are a few areas that we can not get DSL to east of town.
Cant hurt to look into it. About 10 years ago Qwest shipped out all the engineers to Denver. That really messed the system up. The record system is not all that accurate any more.
They have since brought them back. But there is a whole gap of records that are incorrect.

I have had people order DSL that are so far out that they have no chance. But they system says its ok. I have also had a person who lives right next to a DSL cabinet get told they cant.

If it turns out you can not. I think there is a wireless company that serves pine city. Its not great but its 10 times better than dial up.
I would shy away from the satilite internet unless you have no other choice. No one I know who has had it likes it much. You have a 2 sec wait every time you click on some thing. Until it answers.
Any way shoot me a email I will look into it.

Down in this area, rural customers who have Qwest are SOL. Some are very angry about it and have signed petitions to try to force Qwest to get them DSL, but no luck so far. Qwest hasn't even replaced the old US West cabinents sitting in fields. Most are in disrepair so badly that the is no door on them for weather protection. It's amazing that these people's phones still work.

Way back when AT&T first installed telephones in the area, they buried lines between the two major towns La Crecent and Caledonia, then layed out a few branches to smaller towns and then basically told everyone else to eat it, they weren't getting telephones because it was too costly. This caused the local cooperative to be formed, which gave all the rural residents telephones. Now it's time for a repeat of history because the cooperative is now in the process of burying cables right over Qwest's to give customers DSL and they are leaving Qwest in droves as soon as they get the chance. It's kind of pathetic that the cooperative can still turn profits when laying down complete infrastructure and Qwest refuses to do a simple equipment upgrade.

Anyway, I've had satellite internet in the past (was Starband). It's annoying to use with the minimum 1 second resonse times. I would stick with dial-up and try to get pressure on Qwest to get their act together. There's really no excuse for not upgrading equipment to provide everyone with DSL.
