O.T. Weather in Western Ky?

I've been trying to reach Ben Brown of this forum today seems as both cell phone and land lines are out, power must be too as he doesn't appear to be on the net. Just wondering how bad the weather is. Thanks Bill

Brutal, they said on the news tonight that two western KY highway districts couldnt even be contacted. Im in central KY, we got hit hard but they were positively slammed. Powers been out here since 1 pm, my s.o. lives 45 mins east and hers has been out over a day. Got the generator running and a fire in the wood stove so at least Ive got heat, TV, and internet. Cell phones are out but right now at least Ive still got a land line. Main roads are mostly clear, and secondary state roads have at least 1 lane open. Some county roads totally impassable.

Do you know what town or county he lives in?

I live and work on the Henderson/Webster line. We lost power at the house 9 Tuesday night, lost internet at work at 10, lost AT&T cell service at about midnight, lost power at work about 2, and some time after that all AT&T land lines went out. My cell phone just started working half and hour ago, same time as net.

My boss did not want me to leave work this morning but I went home and did chores. Normal 20 min. drive was way over an hour. Tween house and work on the way back I counted 7 phone lines in the road.

They said on the 10:00 news that 75% of Henderson county don't have electricity yet.

Let me know if he is close to me, I'll help you hunt him down.

How are you even posting???? Just saw on the news that 453,000 people were out of power. Thought Kentucky would have to borrow some people to make up that number

Just kidding....

Hope everyone gets through OK.

My wife works in an electic utility office. She would tell you more people than that called her yesterday.

I live about 40 miles south of Louisville. Power is off to over 200,000 customers in just one county there. South and west of Louisville bore the brunt of the ice storm. Trees snapping like toothpicks under the weight of all the ice. That took down power lines and phone lines. Then it got colder. Conditions inhibit repair crews. Some areas are estimated to take a week to 10 days MINIMUM before power is restored. Rural areas somewhat longer. Normally they"ll call in crews from surrounding states to assist. Unfortunately, those areas got hit also. No back-up crews. Mysteriously, gasoline prices went up $.25 to $.30 overnight. Hmmmm Any excuse. We got this in 2 waves.

In the north central part of the state, we got snow, followed by freezing rain, then more snow. The weight of the last snowfall compounded the tree problems. Many key roads are still blocked with downed trees. It is a MESS. Kentucky doesn"t normally get a lot of significant snow events, so little money is budgeted for snow removal equipment.

We got nailed with 90+mph winds back in Sept when Hurricane Ike blew through. We had massive damage and power outages then too. These two events have been #1 and #2 worst power outages in state history, all with-in just over 4 month period. You can name your price for a generator right now.

Ky-bout 70 miles south of Louisville. Most around us have had it worse than us. We've had TV, internet and phone through it, with power outage for only about 6 hours. Our little town lives in the 60s-70s so if you have a scanner or get the weekly newspaper you find out what's going on and with the paper a week after it's happened. So with that we didn't know our water system didn't have power and was shutting off after the tower ran out, so we don't have bathtubs full of water. Some of you might stock up on water unless you know your systems up.
None of ours is a problem more an inconvenience but there is other stuff that I would do for next time.
One thing is putting some kind of through the wall receptacle for the generator, And what was the circuit breaker replacement for generator usage called and were can you get them?

I thought NC was the only place were this happens,,, I feel for ya,,, hope the power crews can git in and restore power soon as possible,,, the power crews sure are a welcome site and do a tuff job,,, thanks for the update did not know it was that bad

Hey Bill, long time no see. The sister in law has been up here in Michigan since Sunday. She's heading home to Lexington today. Think she might spend the night in Ohio at one of her sons house. Don't know what she's gonna be driving into, but I doubt it's gonna be pretty.

I am about 35 air miles east of Lexington.
pertty nasty here as far as backroads and power.
Mina roads are pretty clear and I think most of Lexington has power. But still outages. I hve been without power for a few days. Generator and wireless net access.
About $30/day to feed the generator though.
