What tractors had foot feeds(accelerator)? What were they useful for? I remember one on a Case VAC, and maybe on an Oliver 70? They were kinda fun on the road, but not safe or useful otherwise, were they? My dad wouldda whupped me if he had ever caught me trying to speed shift the VAC....

There's one on our MF 180. Basically useless. Keep hitting it accidentally when going for left brake. Not handy!

I've got a good-sized Cat with one, excellent for loader work. My compact Mitsubishi also has one, rarely used but sometimes real convenient if my hands are busy.

Use a CASE VAC, wide front, for chores, pulling
hay wagons, foot throttle is so handy and safer
slowing down on curves etc. keeps hands on the
wheel, safer, just like driving a truck!

4020s..........we took a torch to 'em. Always had one or two employees who wanted to (insert politically incorrect term here)-foot 'em. They made the engine turn about 2500 rpm, which was more than I wanted it to do on a continuous basis.........

We had a couple of VAC Cases with them. I seem to recall when I was a kid a neighbor had a John Deere B with one.

Several of the Ford Industrials had them.
I have one and like it. I don't use it while plowing or mowing but it is handy for loader work etc.

vac-1070-600b an 830case both had foot feed on both side an was great idea.Allowed you to have i hand on steering-1 hand on hyd-1 foot free for brakes an left foot to control speed when turning.Had complete control of things!!!!

The International (as opposed to Farmall) A had a foot feed in addition to the customary lever. I expect it was handy on those used as mules or tugs.

Can't remember if there was a turn-buckle to adjust the foot feed or not; would have to go look; some of 'em would've just readjusted it, anyway. (Some) young folks like stuff to go fast. This all happened 35-40 years ago............

I usually would her up to max revs with the foot throttle just prior to tough spots such as hills, bog holes or a tall stand of corn.
2400-2500rpm isn't going to bother a 4020's 404 in the least. Industrial and boat applications ran them faster than that for hours on end at full load.

My German made farmall has both. I think that most all do here because they are driven on the roads also.

Get away from nnalert. It will damage your kidneys and thats a big , big problem. Take 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar each day. Mix that with some sort of fruit juice. Stay away also from dairy products.

I ran a 1964 massey 35 ind. for the county road dept with a mid mount sickle bar. For roadside mowing it could not be beat. The foot feed was excellent on that application.Tractor was kept for 20 yrs till trade in

The 2 cyl Deere H had an accelerator pedal as did the new gen 4020 as standard, was an option on my 4450.

Many newer tractors (last 30 years ;-) have DECELERATOR pedals, they are very handy for slowing down for turns and end rows where your hands are busy flipping switches/hydraulic levers/steering.
After making the turn, releasing the decelerator pedal allows the engine to go right back to the rpm preset with the hand throttle.

My Ford 1720, 7700, & TW20 have it. I sure miss it on the other tractors..... The TW wouldn't _have_ to have it, as it's for heavy work all day long, but any utility size tractor, for manuvering around, very handy to have. Loading round bales, that type of work.

Handiest thing ever. I find them least useful on the road. They are extremely useful for loader work or for anything your going back and forth for alot. I like hand throttles for the road and field and that's it. I'm glad that they are finally a standard feature on tractors now.

What you said .... use mine a lot. Very good setup with the foot feed and hand throttle.

I also don't like them. If I wanted use the tractor for a dirt track race, then would consider them useful. Would also be ok for a loader application; ie, loader-backhoe machine. From what I've seen, many operators sit and uselessly "blip" the foot throttle apparently with the thought it then sounds more akin to a racing machine, or somehow it makes them more productive.
