Subject: A place called Iowa

On the sixth day, God turned to the Archangel Gabriel and said: 'Today I am going to create a land called Iowa. It will be a land of outstanding natural beauty. It shall have tall majestic landscapes full of buffalo, tall grass, and hawks, beautiful skies, forests full of elk and deer, and rich farmland'

God continued, 'I shall make the land rich in resources so as to make the inhabitants prosper, I shall call these inhabitants, Hawkeyes, and they shall be known as a most friendly people.'

But, Lord,' asked Gabriel, 'don't you think you are being too generous to these Iowans?'

'Not really,' replied God 'just wait and see the winters I am going to give them.'

I once remarked to our South Dakota pheasant hunting host, that I'd like to see a good prairie blizzard just once.

"If you see one,you might never want to see another one!" he replied.

We've had more than our share of below zero days in NW Ia this winter. Some winters we don't see any below zero temps or maybe one or two nights at most. Will this coming summer average out and be hotter than normal? Jim

There is a small town in Wisconsin that has a sign on the edge of town:

"We like our weather, it keeps the riff-raff out".
